Student looking for a good pair of in ear headphones?

Hi all,

I've read up quite a bit about earphones... mainly about the sennheiser ie 8. Some reason they just stood out the crowd. I mainly listen to a lot of acoustic and classical music but don't mind a bit of everything else. Was just looking for a pair that could use while walking around campus with my iphone, but also for running and just relaxing at home. Any recommendations?

Maybe look into the IE80 and wait for more reviews. That may be what you want. If you are more on a budget the GR07 could be a good alternative as well. Right now I'm using FX700 and I love them. They also pair very well with the iphone 4.

Ah classical and acoustic.. Go with Etymotic ER-4S, Vsonic GR07, Shure SE425, etc. I'm recommending neutral IEMs. The IE8 is bassy and for me, bassy iems or headphones just screw classical pieces.

I thought you could adjust the bass on the IE8? So i thought with classical and acoustic music i could turn it down but then when i'm running and needing to get pumped up i could turn up the bass?

The HF5(extended highs, very detailed mids and good bass response), EX600(dynamic, very resolving and has deep punchy bass with fairly wide soundstage), RE0(very extended highs, great mids and good lowend) serve well these genres music and they are very detailed.

If i'm running will the in ear headphones stay in my ears or will i need clips?

Something like the EX600 will stay in due to the ear hooks. Most lighter IEMs(i.e. plastic) will stay in fine if you wear them over-the-ear and have a good fit/tip selection. How much running are we talking about?

+1 on HF5.

Detailed sound. Soundstage might not be enough for classical, but definitely good clarity for acoustic.

But I wouldn't wear them running.

About an hour outdoor jogging. With certain earphones don't they come with removable ear hooks?

The RE262, is not bad. A very polite iem.

But if definitely needs an amp for those 150Ohms. So i don't think that it is an options.

IMO, acoustic (a genre i also listen a lot to), needs a certain degree of warmth. I personally don't think Ety's would fit the bill.

If i where you, i would start with something cheap, like the Panasonic HJE900.

I personally also found the ie8 (not ie80) to recessed for acoustic.

P.S.: have a look around and find out more about the prices floating around this forum, the ie80 is nothing in comparison....

The IE8.. Its lowest bass volume has the same quantity as the bass found in the IE7. Just not recommended.

The IE80 may be the solution to the IE8. Just waiting for more impressions to confirm this.

I doubt Sennheiser would stray from its authentic sound signature. They might improve the IE8 but wouldn't go the neutral path.
