I can attest to this.  The T1 is a eargasm.

Ha, I'll bet it is for just over a grand. That's a heck of a chunk of change for a set of cans, and if I'm paying that much for them, I'd be spending at least half that on a higher end amp than the e7/e9 combo.

I'll stick in the mid range headphones, at least for now. The wallet is a little deep, but not that deep for the moment. Come January I may be starting a new job and the wallet will get significantly deeper.

Though now y'all have gotten me thinking about those T1's... I can feel my wallet, waiting, biding its time like a tiger in the shadows to pounce...

By the way, do you guys have a portable amp/can combo for bass that will tear the skin off my face with no sacrifice to mid and high clarity? I've been seeing that the 770's are leaning that way, but I want the bass to be like when I saw the original jurassic park in theaters. That scene where the T-rex is thumping along and the bass makes the cavity in your chest rattle. I want that, in my brain. Face-hugger levels of bass. Jackhammer to the frontal cortex bass.

The reason I ask is I want to know what the ultimate damage is going to be financially from this. Those T1's are around 1200. The SR-71B amp is sitting around 650. 770's and 880's around 180 a piece. That's some serious change.

Honestly, I don't think there are any mid-level headphones that will "tear the skin off my face with no sacrifice to mid and high clarity."  Even in the high-end, it's hard to come by.  The LCD-2/3 will do a good job with bass but the treble is a little bit pushed back.  The T1s, however, do get pretty close to what you're wanting and are a very well-balanced pair.

Having tried the Denon AH-D2000, Beyerdynamic DT 880 (250 ohm), and AKG K702, the T1s are definitely in a whole different league.

I'm not sure of portable amps, but there are some decent amps under $400 that can do a great job with the T1.  OTL tubes are especially popular and you might consider the Bottlehead Crack ($219), Little Dot MK III (~$240), Schiit Valhalla ($350), etc.
