Dual 606 replacement cartridge help

Thread Starter

Hey everyone, i will admit i do not know a single thing about turntables. That being said i was wondering if anyone could help me out. I was thinking of getting my dads old dual 606 turntable going again for his christmas present. The problem is that it is missing the cartridge. I know that it uses a ulm55e cartridge but i can not find one anywhere. Is there any other cartridge that could be used on the dual 606 without any adaoters or modifications?

Many thanks,

Hi Madcap, Looks like that headshell is standard mount, so you probably have a lot of options when it comes to a new cartridge. Swing over to http://www.vinylengine.com/library/dual/cs-606.shtml and check out the user manual. It will probably have tips on how to set the table up. Alignment, tracking weight, and tonearm height are very important to get right. If a cartridge is misaligned, or tracks wrong, it sounds very bad and can damage your LPs. Some cartridges pair especially well with certain tables. From what I remember, this has something to do with the 'compliance' of the stylus - how easily it will yield - and how well this matches depends on the mass of the tonearm.
