What Full size headphones should i buy?

Thread Starter

I am new to all this. So, i am looking for a pair of headphones that have excellent sound quality and just completely "out shine" my friends Dr Dre Beats Studio. I am sick and tired of people buying these, so i am looking for a pair of headphones that have:

Excellent Sound Quality

Good Bass

Clear Lows, Mids and Highs (Crisp)

I am currently thinking about the:

Grado SR80i

Audio Technica ATH M50

Please can people recommend some headphones to me.

My budget is £150 but i can stretch to £200.

This is all about $300.

I am also looking for a cheap portable amp.

I listen to Hip hop, rap , RnB and classical music.

Heya,

The M50's utterly replace the Beats for your needs there, in every way.

SR80's will not have the bass of something like the M50/Beats. Plus, they're open air.

Try these. They can be returned in 60 days if you aren't impressed.

Very best,

Audio Technica M50 or Ultrasone 580 should suit your needs.

Please note that for a can to be competent with classical and rap is very difficult to achieve.

The can must have prominent bass reproduction and smooth slightly rolled off high notes

in the treble for modern rap for it to sound good while for classic you generally want a

light, detailed sound that extends nicely in the higher notes.

Difficult if not impossible for a can under $200 to achieve.

Guess what I'm saying is - which style of music is more important to you?

If it's rap then the M50 and 580 are for you, if it's classical and you're happy

to live with less bass then the AKG K142HD is a winner.

The M50s' midbass is no where near as impactful as the Beats'.  Chances are whoever's getting beats like it the most for that very reason.  So no the M50s are far from beating the Beats depending on what you're looking for.

Fiio E6, small portable headphone amplifier.

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80-Ohm, they are bassy, decent mids

DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm, more balanced and clarity then the 80-Ohm.

All DT-770s do best when paired with a headphone amplifier.
