Sorry again for the noobish comments.

wow at the beginning of this thread I was trying to find an amp solution for my PRO 900's now im getting a D5000.

Im pretty happy about my decision im not gonna lie :]

Now I get the whole wallet thing.... tongue.gif

Before I pull the trigger though can you explain what you mean by the sub bass and mid bass humps though .

Heya,

Take a look at bass. I would tell you to think about a subwhoofer. Subs generally have a point where they chime in to deliver the sub-bass, while loud speakers can produce mid and upper bass, along with mids and some lower treble, and then tweeters supply the mid and upper treble. Think about what tone of bass gives you the biggest smile. Think of 200hz for example. Next, think of 30hz. It's a world of difference. Do you like loud tones that basically blend out everything? Or do you like those super low thumps that you feel more than hear, so you hear everything still, but you get that crazy low thump feeling... that's sub bass.

For example, I just loaded up that last song you posted, and I played it, while looking at a real time spectrum (most players have this, Foobar, etc). Look at which frequencies are actually being played. You'll see that 30hz pulsing up and down. Using an EQ, you can melt away things until you find the tone that you love the most. It may be those 120hz to 200hz tones. Or maybe it's that 30hz pulse that you really like. That's what did it for me. I'm more of a sub-bass person.

That said, I can't help but also mention that a simple $50 Sony XB500 can give you that super bass experience on a dime. And the Panasonic HTF600 can do it too for less than $50. They're not as refined as the PRO900 in aspects, and certainly not the D2000 or D5000, or many headphones for that matter. But if you're just looking for a fun musical headphone that can stream bass beats, it's kind of hard to ignore since they're inexpensive.

Basically just want to stress, the D5000 is more than just a bassy headphone. It can turn around and play acoustic like subwhoofers are not involved. That's hard for a lot of bassy headphones.

That said, I really like bass from 50hz to 30hz. So if a headphone can drop those tones with justice, it does it for me. I just like to have a little of everything though so I can switch up what I'm listening to.

Very best,

Perfect description.

I love the bass you can feel.

To be completely honest those panasonic headphones and Sony XB500's would do me justice. I just know how I am and I know I am going to itch to upgrade. I like to be wowed -_-

If I understand correctly, I am going to love my new Denon D5000's.

Your the man , thats for the help.

Just out of curiousity would you call the Denon's a "fun" headphone?

The Pro 900 and Denon D5000 are the same price.

I've heard the D2000 and D7000. I prefer the Pro 900 over those for these songs. I didn't find the D2000/D7000 super immensely comfortable, as they flopped around too much. They didn't have enough clamp. If you sneeze while wearing them, they fall off. Maybe I just have a small head, though. I'm putting my vote in for the Pro 900. I'm a huge electronica junkie and these are fantastic for it. Soundstage, transparency, and separation. Oh, and bass that effectively goes as low as the song calls for.

OH MY GOD THAT JOE MAKER SONG. That made me jump a bit.

I don't hear much of a hump in the bass of the Pro 900. Maybe my ears are broken! I do know that the bass can be modded on the Pro 900 easily, though. Denons can be modded, too. I think you'll be happy for either one. I prefer the Pro 900 for these genres, and Mal prefers the D5000. The Pro 900 are closed and block out outside sound which makes them really nice for portable use and traveling. If was just staying in one place, I would be fine with either the D5000 or the Pro 900. I'm going to be traveling and I like to use the Pro 900 while I'm on the campus and walking and stuff. If I were to do that with the D5000 I would hear everything around me. These block out a lot of the noise. D5000s are at home cans and Pro 900 can be at home and portable cans.

"So now that you know exactly what kind of music I listen to any DAC/AMP suggestions for PC or even portable setup?

Im sure those beasts definitaly require some amping -_-"

As I said I'm going to be getting the iBasso D6 in the mail in a couple of days so I'll let you know how that works with the Pro 900. These have sounded wonderful unamped, though. When I get the DAC/AMP I'm sure it will improve even more. IF YOU NEED PORTABILITY - Don't get the D5000. They are "closed" but they still leak sound and let sound in like an open can.

As a quick comparison of the sound, and Mal may agree with this:

The Pro 900 is the party animal, while the D5000 is the more refined business man who still knows how to party when it's called for.

Ok so I finally pulled the trigger on my Pro 900's and I got it from B&H photo for $306.00 shipped.  I have a month with these things to decide if i want to keep them or not. (Im still so curious of the D 5000's)

First I just wanna say I have about 50 hours on these bad boys and I just wanna say these put my m50's to shame.

I just have to say I was expecting something completely different.

First the bass.  I was expecting loud bass and I got LOUD bass . But its not the kind of bass I was expecting. The kind of bass the PRO 900's gave me was very loud controlled tight thumps which is awsome in its own way.I would like to call it super clean bass which is how you want your headphones right? (Call me retarded but I was hoping for a little bit of boominess) . Bass on Pro 900's = Pure Authority

2nd the Mids. People say that the mids are very recessed but I kind of like them where they are. For electronic music I think the mids need to be a little bit far so I can turn these things up. When the mids are too close they make my ears tingle? LOL

3rd the treble. Right out of the box the treble was pretty sharp , but slowly the sharpiness is reducing. All I have to say is HOLY MOLY these headphones can show you detail and i mean DETAIL.

So far I'm having mixed feelings about the PRO 900's or anxiety maybe . I think im just a little nervous of dropping the dough -____-  All I know is the more I listen to these things the better they sound. like way better :) The S-Logic is awsome too its giving the fun factor I need too.

I just hope I can achieve to get the sound I want from these and I feel like Im so sooooo CLOSE. (I still want some boominess my M50's gave me and maybe tame the highs a tad bit.

Maybe I can acheive that sound with a nice amp or something? (Suggestions welcome).

Deep down I know if I give these a chance I know Im going to fall in love with them (and I already am) Its just It kinda makes me nervous that there might be headphones out there that I might like better. Especially with this return policy.

At then end of the day these pro 900's are $ick.

very nice posts, i have the almost exact musical taste, and also the M50 (as my only headphone til now). And I was also between the D2000 or the Pro 900 (actually the D5000 but they were a little out of my budget, unless i find some decently used one, however) I am definitely more towards the Pro 900 right now, as I listen to EDM 90% of the time, plus I can exchange it if I still do not like them after 400 hours of burn in. Prob gonna listen to them during the day and burn them in for lets say 12 hours at night for 3 weeks.

For EDM, you can't go wrong with Pro 900. If you happen to not like them chances are that you wouldn't like D2000/ D5000 for EDM either.

From what I know, I disagree. I own the Pro 900, but the lack of sub bass and super sharp highs got the better of me. I have realized that for EDM, I am also a SUB-bass junkie. For me, that's where the power comes from, and what makes me excited. Of course, mid-bass is important too. What the Denon's have is more sub-bass that is in balance with the mid-bass. And less piercing highs to boot. For people that have purchased cans for EDM, it seems ofter times, Pro 900 owners eventually swap out for Denon. I know I am.

I don't know what you're talking about lack of sub bass. They have nearly as much, if not as much, as D5000.

Uncover your Pro900's remaining bass holes for more sub-bass. I definitely still prefer the Pro900 over the D7000 for purely EDM.

Yeah it's not a lack of sub-bass, but it's so out of balance with the mid-bass that it inevitably takes a more back-seat role.

How do you do that? I am definitely a sub-bass fan, a basshead in general, but sub-bass is what I like most. I have the E11, but I think that adds mid-bass only(?) (up to 6.5dB or something)

There is a semi-circular white sticker on the back of the driver covering 2 out of 4 holes. Uncovering these allows more air to the driver and thus increases the bass. I've got all 4 holes uncovered on my pair. Would be interesting to try a stock pair and compare the difference.

Here is the original thread for the mod on the HFI-780...
