If you can explain the diffrence between sub-bass and mid-bass humps I'd be able to pick which headphones to get. -_-
Sorry again for the noobish comments.
wow at the beginning of this thread I was trying to find an amp solution for my PRO 900's now im getting a D5000.
Im pretty happy about my decision im not gonna lie :]
Now I get the whole wallet thing....
Before I pull the trigger though can you explain what you mean by the sub bass and mid bass humps though .
Heya,
Take a look at bass. I would tell you to think about a subwhoofer. Subs generally have a point where they chime in to deliver the sub-bass, while loud speakers can produce mid and upper bass, along with mids and some lower treble, and then tweeters supply the mid and upper treble. Think about what tone of bass gives you the biggest smile. Think of 200hz for example. Next, think of 30hz. It's a world of difference. Do you like loud tones that basically blend out everything? Or do you like those super low thumps that you feel more than hear, so you hear everything still, but you get that crazy low thump feeling... that's sub bass.
For example, I just loaded up that last song you posted, and I played it, while looking at a real time spectrum (most players have this, Foobar, etc). Look at which frequencies are actually being played. You'll see that 30hz pulsing up and down. Using an EQ, you can melt away things until you find the tone that you love the most. It may be those 120hz to 200hz tones. Or maybe it's that 30hz pulse that you really like. That's what did it for me. I'm more of a sub-bass person.
That said, I can't help but also mention that a simple $50 Sony XB500 can give you that super bass experience on a dime. And the Panasonic HTF600 can do it too for less than $50. They're not as refined as the PRO900 in aspects, and certainly not the D2000 or D5000, or many headphones for that matter. But if you're just looking for a fun musical headphone that can stream bass beats, it's kind of hard to ignore since they're inexpensive.
Basically just want to stress, the D5000 is more than just a bassy headphone. It can turn around and play acoustic like subwhoofers are not involved. That's hard for a lot of bassy headphones.
That said, I really like bass from 50hz to 30hz. So if a headphone can drop those tones with justice, it does it for me. I just like to have a little of everything though so I can switch up what I'm listening to.
Very best,
