im in the market for a new pair of headphones. my old pair (sennheiser hd595s) still work, and probably sound as good as ever, but they just sound a little dirty and unimpressive to me now. my budget is around 400-700$, and they will be used purely for music playback. the genres i listen to the most are post rock (which is a vague catagory, so if your not familiar with bands like godspeedyoublack emporer, then radiohead is probably the closest example) and hiphop. though i also listen to a lot of female vocals, folk, classical, blues, jazz, and indie rock.
ive listened to a few decent pairs of headphones, but unfortunately i dont have access to a good shop which will let me try out pairs in this price range, so i will have to buy without testing :O and resell on ebay if i am unhappy. i like headphones which have what i can only describe as a "warm" sound, which again, is a very vague desription, sorry i cant do better than that. but for example my pair of modded 1960s AR-2A analogue speakers sound much nicer and "warmer" to me than a pair of, say, Adam a7s, which are much more expensive and have much more accurate sound reproduction. the pair of headphones i am looking at, as the title suggests, is the DENON AHD5000s, though i cannot unfortunately try these out in my local branch of bestbuy :P reviews seem to unanimously place these as better than the HD650s, which i have tried and been unimpressed with. some people have also recommended the akg k701s, but comparison reviews lead me to believe the denon ahd5000s may be more suitable for what i am looking for....
in short, my question is; to anybody who has experience with headphones in this price range, do you have any recommendations? thankyou muchly :)
