For Sale:
FS: Sony MDR-R10 Near Mint - SOLD

Will Ship To: Anywhere

Lately I have found I no longer listen to headphones so I have decided to part with most of my collection. This listing is for a Sony MDR-R10 dynamic closed headphone in excellent to near-mint condition. As the R10 is well known to most everyone here on Head-Fi, I will spare you the superlatives and focus on the specifics of this particular pair.

I purchased the R10 several years ago while living in Honolulu, HI and I am the third owner. I know both previous owners very well so the history of the R10 is quite well known. The R10 was purchased in Japan by the first owner and the original bill of sale from Japan is included as it has been passed along from each owner. The serial number is 0763 and the manufacturing date is sometime in 1989 according to the date on the cover of the manual.

Apart from a few very small nicks near the hanger pivots, the R10 is in immaculate condition with no dings or scratches on the Zelkova wooden driver housings. The Greek lambskin ear pads are soft, supple and like new with no rips, tears or cracking. The headband and suspender are in immaculate condition with no signs of wear or deterioration. The velvet lined, leather covered carrying case is also in immaculate, near-mint condition.

If sold at the asking price, track-able, insured USPS shipping and PayPal fees are included for buyers in the continental US. For buyers outside the continental US, the difference in shipping costs will be added. If sold below the asking price, track-able, insured USPS shipping and PayPal fees are not included for all buyers. PayPal fees are 3% for US buyers and 4% for non US buyers according to PayPal's published rates. PayPal eCheck preferred.

I currently have no Head-Fi feedback but I have extensive eBay feedback and some Audiogon feedback. My eBay user name is rastek_research and my Audiogon user name is Rastek.

Please PM with any questions, requests for additional pics, my phone number or any offers. Local pickup is available, however cash upon delivery would be preferred, please PM for my home address if picking up locally.

I am also selling the amplifier I have used to drive the R10 which is a David Berning prototype MacroZotl 3W Class A speaker/headphone tube amp with a tube switching power supply. David tells me there is only one of these amps in existence as he decided not to place the MacroZotl into production. Also for sale is a Sony MDR-CD3000, an EarMax Anniversary headphone amp and a NOS, NIB matched quartet of Western Electric 300B filamentary triode vacuum tubes.:.

All the highend stuffs,

From the s/n, I think your pair is bass light R10

Can you inform the inputs and outputs of the macrozotl?  any specification?

What is the code at the base of the WE300B?  from the box they seem to be the reissue versions

after 1998, is that corrcet?

You may be right. I have no way of knowing as I have never had a known bass light or bass heavy R10 to compare mine against. What I can say however is I have never had the impression this particular R10 was light in the bass, especially when driven by the right amp such as the MacroZotl.

Can you inform the inputs and outputs of the macrozotl?

On the rear panel the two sets of RCA jacks are identical line level inputs 1 and 2, selectable by the switch between the sets. The two sets of binding posts are left and right speaker outputs. There is a locking 1/4" Neutrik headphone jack on the front panel.

any specification?

The few specs I received from David Berning are included in the listing under 'Specifications'. These are the extent of the specs I was given. I suspect David did not gather the normal amount of test data since this was a prototype that he decided not to place into production.

What is the code at the base of the WE300B?

Printed in yellow next to 'Made in USA' is 0539 which suggests the 39th week of 2005. The test certificate has the test date listed as 7.27.2005.

Yes, these are the reissues. The open tube's test date is 7.27.2005.

Thanks for your questions and interest kiertijai.:.
