Disappointed with Creative Zen X-Fi2 sound quality

I recently bought a Creative Zen X-Fi2 from my local secondhand store for £50. It is the 8Gb model and I bought it because I was intrigued by the X-Fi crystalize and expand function on this DAP. I own a lot of DAPs including a Cowon J3, Sony X1060 and iPod Video 5G. To be honest once I transferred music onto the Zen X-Fi2 and played them by using the X-Fi function I was very disappointed with the sound quality. The sound quality is really lifeless, dull and very harsh on the highs. The sound is a little better once the X-Fi function is switch off but not that much. I have also adjusted the X-Fi crystalize and expand functions but still the sound is unsatisfactory. I am using the same IEMs as I do on my other DAPs. I guess with owning such good DAPs such as the Cowon and Sony and I was to be disappointed with the SQ on the ZEN X-Fi2.

That pretty much summed up how I felt about it when I took a listen to it.
