Well there's the thing, I have the Fiio E7+E9 that I use my Beyer's with, but I also have my PS3 set up in a funky way....so picture the audio stream like this (probably butchered lol) HDMI > Headphone port line out > Laptop Line in > laptop USB into Fiio E9 Line in. Laptop obviously set to use USB DAC, and also set to listen to the Line In port so the PS3 audio can be heard.....and still when I play music from the laptop it sounds miles better when playing music on the PS3 - still because of the DAC in PS3 ?

What software playback program are you using on the laptop?

Foobar with the one of the mixer dll files to bypass windows os mixing....otherwise the hardware in the setup is the same bar the actual files being played on the PS3. Even though both laptop and PS3 are running through the same hardware at the laptop > headphone end the music sounds miles better when playing the same files on my PS3 than the same files on the laptop.

It took me a few weeks to get used to the Stax sound (O2).  It wasn't love at first sight, and took a lot of testing and tweaking.

Like a lot of people with primary Stax rigs have mentioned, I think it takes some time to get used to the electrostat sound.  After you get used to listening to music extensively on stats, the 'flaws' in dynamic rigs become pretty easy to identify.  I'm using the word flaws loosely, though, as I personally don't find dynamic vs. electrostatic to be apples to apples.
