HiFiMan HE300 & HiFiMAN HE4 which is better?

Hi I'm looking at the HE300's and the HE4's and I would be using them with a Fiio E9 & E7 but I would like to know if the HE4's could be powered by the amp and dac? As I hear they are very high power cans...I think the HE500 are too pricey for me so it is between these 2 any help would be greatly accepted.

Many thanks

If you're willing to pay for an HE4, you could probably manage a used HE-500.

Question is... do you want a dynamic or do you want a planar magnetic? And that solves your question.

Very best,

I would rather have the planar magnetic but it is whether the amp setup that I have would be able to power them as there are reviews saying they have a high power consumption

Heya,

They're inefficient. But at it's low impedance rating, the E9 will push enough power into it for it to be fine. You would do better to push a little more power into it, but you're by no means crippled with the E9 even for a planar magnetic.

Very best,

Please tell us why you "would rather have the planar magnetic"?

Vocals are meant to have great clarity and that is quite important to me, whilst still having a good level of bass and the hifiman's are meant to have that

Have you heard a planar-magnetic headphone?

The HE300 and HE-4 are great set of cans but with very different sound signatures. Actually they don't really sound anything alike. However I will say the HE300 is a crazy bargain at 249 but even at that price I will easily say the HE-4 is the better can by far. As for the E9 and E7 I would get a better dac than the E7 is capable of at this level but that's another story..

The clarity of the HE-4 is exceptional. If you have ever heard the DT880 you will know what the HE-4 is like.
