neutric jack static

Thread Starter

Has anyone heard of a failure mode where a neutrix locking jack loses contact/ gets staticy with the smallt movement of the headphone cable/jack?

I mean there isn't much to this jack inside,  but this is what I am experiencing.  This is a dc coupled amp with a servo (fairly slow on) so a slight loss of contact isn't good.

Sounds like it might be shorting slightly... does it happen with multiple headphones? Have you had a chance to look at the solder joints?

I've had headphones which don't fit the Neutrik locking jack well, most notably the stock plug on a pair of Fostex T50RPs. I didn't notice static on these, but the L channel (which is the tip on the plug) would semi cut in/out when moving the plug in the jack. Cured by replacing the plug on the phones. This was on my extension cable with a Neutrik NJ3FC6 on it.
