I'm thinking of upgrading, would it be worth it too upgrade to any of these headphones, I'm not a super competitive gamer and I'm on a budget, I've never used any headphones except the ones I have, but I do think they have good overall and directsound, so should I upgrade, because I still plan on using my sony mdr7506 on the go, I would like the freedom of not having to keeping transfering my headphones between devices but by no means I'm not an audiophile,

On the computer, are you using built in sound or a sound card (which model)?

I'm not using one right now but I was thinking of throwing a 30$ ASUS or 70$ Creative Sound Card When I build my new pc when ivy bridge and the Nvidia GTX6 series & Radeon 7000 Series Comes Out or Windows 8 (if it comes in april), But at the moment I'm not sure. If I pirate windows 7 or 8 I will probably definitely buy one or spend it on games but at the moment I'm Not sure.

The Asus Xonar DG (PCI) is a really great bargain.

Sometimes the Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium HD goes on sale with a $60 mail in rebate.

Heya,

You're super competitive, but you don't have something that can produce accurate sound positioning.

So how do you know you're super competitive then?

Get a soundcard with dolby headphone. Plug in any headphone, or IEM. You're not an audiophile at all, so you don't need anything other than a cheap $10 headphone at best. Right? Xonar DG and a cheapie headphone for $10 can give you all you need for $40 total basically.

Unless you actually do care about sound (referring to the headphones).

Very best,

Of that list, I've seen many of those suggested over the years as "ideal for gaming" - I've only heard a handful of them. My preference is towards the Sennheiser 598 if your budget allows - based on my experience with the 595 (and preference over the 555; it's been a while though, so I couldn't give you specifics - I just recall the 595 being "better" - given the $30 price difference you've stated, I'd get the 598 simply because it looks nicer and at absolute worst, it's just a nicer looking 558; that's worth $30 to me).

The 555/558 and 595/598 would not be a pick for portable use (they're open), but the Sonys you already have sound like they're fitting that bill. If you're entirely satisfied with them (it sounds like you may well be), perhaps just buying another pair of them so you have one for "at home" and one for "outside" may be a better (and likely cheaper) alternative?

The new Creative Labs Soundcore3D PCI-E sound card could be coming out any day now.

It has a 600-Ohm headphone amplifier.

Price will be from $104-$133.
