Hello everyone total noob to audio, I read a little bit about it but still confused.

I figured I wanted a high quality pair of head phones so I picked up Senn HD558 from best buy, not sure if this is a good choice.

Mainly because I play video games like CSS 1.6 and BF3.

So I know I dont have a sound card and that's what I'm looking to buy,

The motherboard I have is MSI 890FXA-GD65, video card is HD5870 PCI 2.0 x16

So from what I know i have a PCI and PCIe slot available. Now I do listen to music but some days more then other.

My question would be what soundcard should I get not sure of my budget right now but I want something that will be good for games
and be not like super expensive, up to 100 I think is good but I can +- 20 or so.

Thank you for your time I hope I posted in the right section and I wish everyone have a wonderful day :)

Asus Xonar DG (PCI), built in headphone amplifier rated up to 150-Ohms

Dolby Headphone 5.1, helps with games, really good for DVD movies.

$30, and there is a $10 mail in rebate (USA).

bump any more opinions or just xonar DG?

Xonar D2 or D2X are excellent choices if not driving high impedance phones & the HD558's are not high impedance so should be ok. Should sound better than the Xonar DG due to full direct coupling.

Not likely with the HD558's You will if you decide to go with higher impedance phones.

Sennheiser hd-558 50-Ohms are easy to drive.

The Xonar DX2 would better if you had wanted analog 5.1(or 7.1) speakers, full blu-ray audio and DTS

The DX2 also has both digital input and output (coaxial)

They both (DG & DX2) do Dolby Headphone 5.1

The DX2 costs over 4 times the DG.

Thank you both, I got the Xonar DG I will see how I like it. If i don't I can always keep it. It was only 15 bucks.
