I am a gamer. I have a pair of Seinheisser HD201's. Through much research I ended up snagging a pair of these because the reviews were great and they were cheap. I plugged them into my AV receiver which has an optical cord to HDMI tv which has HDMI cords to PS3 and Xbox360. They sound pretty good. I debated whether or not to get a better pair of headphones (ATH AD700) and borrowed my friends HD555's which are comparable to the AD700's. When I compared the HD201's to the HD555's I wasnt blown away by the difference (I am no audiophile) however I think I noticed a bigger soundstage with the HD555's and a touch more quality sound, I can easily say the HD555's are better, but like I said, I wasnt blown away by them (I am probably being a little biased because I have HD201's : ). Also, I only noticed the differences if I was really paying attention and thinking about them.
I've decided to get the Earforce DSS and connect it optically to my PS3 and Xbox360. I initially was going to get the Astro mixamp. But I dont really chat when multiplayer gaming (nobody actually uses the chat function to coordinate attacks anyways, its just a bunch of kids cussing).
So, I am hoping to be close to blown away by the virtual surround sound the DSS provides to my HD201's. I hope I am impressed (but I also dont want to have to high expectations).
Which brings me to my question...should I get the AD700's to fully utilize the DSS capabilities or will my HD201's suffice?
Also, if you feel so inclined, give me your thoughts on the Earforce DSS.
Thanks for your help.
