Haha! Thank you for the advice! But you know, there's always something to upgrade!
Something's telling me though, that the HE500 will be the final fix that will help me reach audioheaven..

Get the D2000's with the Lawton mods from Martin Customs. His cups are absolutely stellar and from my experience I have a feeling the only difference between the D2k and D5k are just wood cups and 200 bucks....
A lawton modded D2000 I listened to was an absolute blast and the wood is gorgeous too!
Are those their own leather pads are JMoneys?
Those are ridiculous prices though. At that point I think I rather just get an HE-500.
Oh they shouldn't cost that much. I have confirmed that Martin custom audio will do the same mods for not nearly the same price. The Lawton mods are open source and the owner freely wrote tutorials on how to perform them so no stepping on toes :)
The LA-2000 is friggin awesome though.
I was also looking at the LA2000 "lite", but I'm not a DIY guy so I would have to ship mine to lawton.
For 489$ pluss shipping overseas (both ways) it becomes a lot more expensive than if I sell the d2000 and buy a HE500, which is referenced to as one of the best high end headphones.
If you're looking for high quality closed cans the lawtons are maybe one of the best in the world, but it comes at a prize.
And I get the impression that even the LA7000 can't compete with HE500, even though it's almost double the prize.
Well, I can understand where you are coming from (yeah, denon guys I'm looking at you
), but most pople here that owned both d7000 and HE500 tells that the he500 win by a large margin in every area (expect maybe the bass). I may have got the wrong impression though.
So it's a 650$ (if lucky!) denon vs 699$ HE500, and other that the d7k is easier to drive and are closed I see no real competition here.

Anyone know if a TTVJ Slim could power the HE-500? All I have are portables and I've decided I'm going to skip mid-fi D2000/HD6X0 and go straight for an HE-500 at some point in the future. I thought about a D7000 also but it's time I had a high-end open phone.
No good sir, I haven't. I unfortunatly live somewhere which I can't test these to up against eachother. If I could I would, but for now I am trusting all the reviews from the like of Tyll etc. and the many forum impression that these are infact great cans.
Of course I won't discuss on subjectivity. Some may like the d7k a lot more than the he500, and that's totally fine.
I think your comment is overly harsh, since you may have suspected that I don't own any of them (therefore created this thread). But I won't fall to that level and ask if YOU owned and compared them both.
Denon d7k is (probably, since I haven't heard them) a great can! But after reviews and impression that I've READ, the HE500 looks like a better bang for the bucks (subjectively speaking of course).
I am searching for a "budget" desktop amp, and it looks like the audio gd NFB 10SE with balanced output will be enough to drive the HE500.
Hey BleaK, thanks for the response and suggestion!
I'll be sure to take a look at the NFB 10SE but I was actually asking about the TTVJ Slim because it's the only amp I have right now.
Anyone else have some input on the TTVJ Slim driving a pair of HE500s?
