I want to buy Shure SRH440, persuade me to buy them, or not.

hey guys, im pretty much set on buying a pair of Shure SRH440's at christmas, but if you can persuade me not to, or to buy a different pair of headphones, im all ears. My budget is 70 UK pounds.

Circumaural preferably
closed back
not too heavy/bulky (as i use them on a bus)
balanced/neutral sound
comfy
im open to IEM suggestions too, if they are comfy and sound better than the Shures.

My source is a iPod classic with mainly apple lossles and 320kbps, a fiio L3 and a miu audio DIY amp, with LME49720 opamp.

Thanks guys.

The only reason not to buy them is to buy a SRH940 instead =) just kidding. I thought they were a bit bulky/heavy, but apparently a lot of people use them outside with no issues.

Depends on your definition of bulky. They fit inside a messenger bag which is good enough for me. The thing about the SRH440 though is that it's really uncomfortable, at least for my head. Some people seem to find them ok. Only after buying SRH840 pads and padding for the headband am I able to wear them for longer than twenty minutes.

yep ive hear about the pads, and i was going to buy the 840 pads for them. So apart from that they are good. I dont have a big head either so i should be ok.

Considering they are a more neutral srh840 i would say get them.

they are  good as I remembered them sounding.. neutral yet still musical enough. Good crispy non fatiguing treble, tight bass. really good with guitar sound.

other recommendation would be ath-m50, some may not agree with me but it sounds kind of fun too..

i like my mids up front, and not recessed, and the M50's have quite a bit of bass and recessed mids. Not for me i dont think.

Um no

More like recessed bass and highs and mids up front according to the graphs.

He was talking about the M50 being bassy with comparatively recessed mids Casey - so why did you post the 440 graph?  What he said was IMO correct.

i think i will quite like the SRH440. I really like soundmagic PL50 IEM, but thought it was lacking in the highs a bit.

anyone else want to chime in, i also have AKG K518 DJ with velour pads, decreases bass, no foam in the middle, but still find them seriously lacking in treble.

do these deliver lifelike cymbol crashes? Nice shimmer and extension? As i just saw a german band called fotos live, and i miss nice cymbol crashes on my AKG's. I went to see the band for a school trip, great, and the rooms acoustics were terrible but the sound guys did a great job and the band sounded amazing, you could hear every instrument and everything. Thanks

Cymbals sound pretty good, though not sure I would describe them as shimmery. To me it actually sounds pretty similar to the graph. That is to say a bump around 9 or 10 kHz, which increases perceived treble/detail but gives a slight edge to vocals, and then it nods off from there.
