Just wondering how much does the average headier spends on audio equipment.

I've spent about $500 so far.

But when you think about it, spending $500 on a hobby isn't that bad.

I got no idea what I've spent in total but should be around 3-4k by now

Less than what most people spend on clothes.

I really need new clothes.

never really thought about it....now that i do....i spent like bit over 1000 bucks the past year or so. i would of never guessed that much cause i buy stuff used and each item was not very costly a piece.dang money do add up when you think about it. lot of it came from DIY projects as well.

$3450, for the gear I'm currently using (counting both the T1 and DT770, since I use them both for different things). However, I'm not currently planning on spending any more - I'm happy with where I'm at.

I'm not sure there's any typical amount, just a massive range.  Personally I've got about $2000 in headphone stuff. (I only counted that in my vote.)

If you include speakers, home audio gear, and recording gear, I'm probably well over the $20K range.  Lest you think I'm insane, those purchases have been spread out over a 15 year period.  Good audio gear lasts a long time.

The $20k-$50k range. Covers both the retail and what I actually spent.

Also consider that this was spread over about five years and was maybe 5% of income. I saved even more and paid off a lot of debt.

I'm done, except for DIY. Once that's done, I'll strip down to favorites and what I actually use.

I also think I bought more than I needed. If you go for used/DIY gear, you can put together an awfully good system for $5,000-$10,000. That is a substantial amount of money, but not too bad spread over time. Average salaries are around $36k. Put $100-$200 a month towards a setup for a few years and you'll have something excellent that will last for 20 years.

Probably about $10.000 for what's in my sig bought over the last 5-6 years. Add in another $1-2.000 lost on reselling stuff I no longer own

I've spent about $2000 on just a few months but I think my spending is stopping for now.

After 4 months on Head-Fi and $3800 I'm done buying headphones and amps. I'm an external DAC away from completing my collection.

I've only just begun this foray into headfidality but hopefully it doesn't reflect my previous obsession on stereo audiophilia... which has been in good control (read: nothing bought in past 10 years)... till now it would seem.

This forum is not helping... Hi, my name is ______ and I'm an audiophiliac! L3000.gif

To Much over the years that I've been into Audio, plus the LP's and Disc. I've never bought anything on time or credit, always saved the cash for my next purchase....... Todays prices on most high end gear is just stupid crazy FU money....I'm with Uncle Erik on DIY or good used gear to put together a great sounding system...... As I've said before, to many people get caught up in buying and selling on the "next greatest edition", like you just saved and bought a great amp and 6 months later the Mark II version comes out and many just have to have "it".........that's just pissing your money away...(IMO)

I never counted until now, and it's about 5k. But I don't think I'm done yet.
