Cans for JPOP

Thread Starter

Hello, I am looking to buy Full sized cans mainly for the JPOP style. Here's a few criteria I'd like, in importance order.

Comfortable

Good sound quality

Closed cans

Easy to amp

Easy to drive

Stylish looking

Good sound isolation

My price budget would be around ~400$ maximum. I am also Canadian, so I can't really have access to every single brand. Right now I've had my eyes set on

However, I don't even know if that's a re-release... but they sure are Stylish and closed cans.

Thanks for every bit of help you guys shall provide.

Try the Shure SRH-940. It's quite easy to drive and is very good for any type of asian pop, especially anything with female vocals. I like it but think it's way overpriced.

So are you totally against buying an amp despite the $400 max? If you're OK with getting a cheap portable amp, I'd add in the Koss Pro DJ 100. I'd take that over the SRH-940 and add in an E5/E6 along with some M50 pads.

I also found the SRH-840 a good match for Jpop, but it's not stylish or comfortable. Maybe comfortable for a few people but not me.

I hope more people can offer suggestions. I think for Jpop I like a slight bump in the upper mids, but not too much.

MDR-7506 also isn't bad for Jpop too.

I also love my KRK KNS-6400 with memory foam pads ($99USD) but it might not have enough bass for some. I don't know if I'd call it easy to drive though..pretty close.

BTW if you ever find yourself interested in an open headphone, the HD-598 is one of the best there is for Jpop. Even more so than the HD-600/650 IMO.

I am looking for the Koss Pro DJ 100, which are damn aesthetics to my eye and pretty cheap. However, I don't see them available anywhere for canada online.

I have a pair of Sony ZX700s. I think they sound pretty good for jpop/ kpop in general. They're like $100

I see they're actually able to ship to Canada directly from Koss. I just might actually get the Koss Pro DJ 100 as I really love Koss and their Lifetime warranty(I am sending my Portapros as we speak for repairs). I am not against buying amps, I just don't want to buy 400$ worth of amping.

Are theses cans pretty comfy? And most importantly, do they leak sound?

Where can I get the M50 pads in Canada?

Koss somehow don't seem to ship to me... Anyone know where, as a Canadian, I can get the PRODJ 100?

What kind of JPop?

Female - ESW9 I think

If you want your Jpop with intimate sound, the Audio-technica ES10. It works depicts good energy in highs and lows for R&B, Rap, Techno, Electronica. All the genres that Jpop likes to play with.

Theses cans are fairly high price in comparison to the Koss recommended earlier. Do they need lots of amping.

Sensitivity: 102dB/mW   <---they can get loud with any source

Impedence: 42 Ohms   <---do not need an amp, on most sources..

I've been having the same questions, and I've been recommended the ATH-AD900. I've been told ATH work very well in general with Japanese music, if only I could get a pair of ATH-AD2000 cheaply.

Another vote for ES10.

The ES10 does scale with a better amp/source though; what are you using?

After hearing allot of ES10 recommendations in this thread, I decided to look at the review of the product here:

"For a portable, the ES-10 has surprisingly substantial sub-bass--very similar to the M50, with both able to almost match the D7000 all the way down to 30Hz (although the D7000 does it effortlessly, while the two AT models struggle a little bit more). In fact. The ES-10 and the M50 sounded so similar to the point where I wondered if they use the same driver. It's a pleasant and warm sound without any sibilance, but not as articulate or airy as I'd like. Being a portable on-the-ear is fine since it's actually pretty comfortable, but I still prefer to not have something pressing on my ears at all. I wouldn't pick the ES-10 over the M50 since the M50 costs less than half but sounds so similar, and is more comfortable, being full-sized, not to mention it folds down and is quite portable."

I know audio is subjective to ones opinion, but this would make me think twice when buying the ES-10.
