Ministry Of Sound 006

So anyone have impressions on these cans? I bought them for P2800 = $65.. Here are my impressions:

This cans are bass heavy (Brand says it all).. I listen to rock/metal music O_Oa and not dance.. to solve these minor problem I did some adjustments on equalisation and somehow did a little boost to mids and highs.. this kinda balanced out the SQ of my cans.. well it's not that clear but it's not that muffled either.. highs aren't piercing and mids are just okay.. bass can still be heard and isn't overemphasized thanks to the EQ( though I'm no fan of equalising, that seemed to be the only way to make SQ better).

upon purchase the bass and mid frequencies seemed to be a bit loose. (was listening to Dashboard Confessional's Heaven Here) snare's and the bass from the electric guitar seemed to be loose, they just didn't sound right (I play in a band and am a bassist) so as what I've read about "burn in", I've decided to do it to my cans for about 50 hours. While other people say it's just placebo, I do not know but I've noticed bass and snare's sound from DC's Heaven Here sounded right or at least sounded closer to the real thing.

And now I am planning to get a portable amp (Fiio) because it's the only amp I could find in my country.. so anyone can help me find an amp? I do not like to further enhance bass or any other frequencies, I'd just like to hear more clarity and isolation.. thank you all and God Bless.

I am a noob sorry lol any help will be very much appreciated

Further clarity would be best achieved by sourcing another can ~ the Fiio will not really give you much

in that sense over what the Ministry of Sound driver is already capable of.

oh okay thanks.. but my cans have detachable cable.. you think buying high grade cables would further improve SQ? since a portable amp wouldn't give me what I'm looking for

Nope ~ cables should be the last thing on anyone's 'audio to do list' and it generally applies to high end headphones

above $300USD that could possibly benefit because their advanced driver could take advantage potentially of the

better headphone cables.

You don't have to go far for better sound quality, you should be able to get a Shure 440 for $60USD second hand

or a Grado SR80i second hand for about the same money if you look.

Good money spent and your clarity issues will be solved. The Grado is an open design though, but for the

price nothing gets close to the clarity in fact no can under $200USD does.

wow thanks.. I guess I'll have to stick with this for a few months before upgrading :) sound quality really is not that bad for the price (IMO) I just want to further enhance it in the best possible way :)

Once you get your new or second hand cans ~ you'll be one happy camper!

Enjoy them for now and look forward to them

What's your portable player? I run my SR80i's on the town out of a simple Apple iShuffle ~ sounds great.

Key thing to remember is that a lot of portable amps will dilute the original signal, it's yet another device

that the audio signal must pass through ~ no device is perfect ~ hence by amplifying it with something

cheap then you degrade the clarity of the original signal. Fiio make nice stuff if you need something

entry level in the portable amp range ~ nothing gets close for price an size. Something like the E6

Sansa Clip is a winner and it will drive a host of sub $120 headphones just fine, no need for an amp, you'll just add line noise that does not need

to be there. No point amping any further if the headphones don't need it.

Beautiful, just like me ~ I copy *.WAV and Apple lossless over to my little Shuffle ~ works well.

so to get things straight. I just need to get a sansa clip and change my source.. no amps no cables

I can't leave my cans just yet as they are extremely comfortable.. my ears don't hurt after 3-4 hours of play. and build is solid and very good for the price.. no plastic material.. as for SQ I could say it runs on a 4-5/10**

I'm glad I got this over the Urbanears Plattan..

anyway thanks for your help sir Gwarmi.. you've shed me some light.. and now it's decided.. sansa clip up next for purchase
