For what it's worth I think you made the right choices. MS + Asgard + HD650 would exactly be the combo I would choose if I had your budget. HD650s are very musical and stand up well against higher end cans. HD650s are my favorite cans under $500. I think you would be happy with them.

That's great to hear my research wasn't completely wasted. 
I think I'm set on the DAC as the HRT but for the amp, would there be better deals than the Asgard in the $250 range?
I'd rather not buy a kit and rather a ready made amp as my Dad already builds amps.
Maybe squeeze in a tube amp?
I'm having a read through reviews of the M-Stage, Maverick D1 and the V100. Unfortunately I don't think I can fit the Benchmark DAC1 in. I found an unused Ultramatch Pro DAC lying about in the house but I don't have an optical out for it unfortunately.
Lets say I can cut out the DAC and use the Stello DA100 as my primary DAC, then what amp could I fit into my budget? (~$450 for an amp).
