HD650 + Schiit Asgard + HRT Music Streamer II? Need some advice. - Page 2

Alternatively, lash out on a Violectric V100 with the DAC 24/96 module which comes separately. Open the case, drop it

in and you have one of the more under rated Dac/Amp combos out there.

V100 is a very difficult customer to top for power, control and warmth for the price IMHO happy_face1.gif

If the day comes that you upgrade to a K1000, LCD3 or HD800 ~ you're already set.

Don't think the Valhalla will make the grade for those cans though.

have u considered bottlehead crack too? it is cheaper, and tube amp, from reviews i read, pair better with HD650

i am in the same situation with u, trying to get an amp for hd650 with limited fund.

That's great to hear my research wasn't completely wasted. k701smile.gif

I think I'm set on the DAC as the HRT but for the amp, would there be better deals than the Asgard in the $250 range?

I'd rather not buy a kit and rather a ready made amp as my Dad already builds amps.

Maybe squeeze in a tube amp?

I'm having a read through reviews of the M-Stage, Maverick D1 and the V100. Unfortunately I don't think I can fit the Benchmark DAC1 in. I found an unused Ultramatch Pro DAC lying about in the house but I don't have an optical out for it unfortunately.

Lets say I can cut out the DAC and use the Stello DA100 as my primary DAC, then what amp could I fit into my budget? (~$450 for an amp).

I just got an HRT music streamer and am very happy w/ it. It's the newest Streamer II. Looked at the II+ and Cambridge DacMagic for a while. Very happy I just went w/ the II. Couldn't be easier to setup. Great sound. Couldn't tell a huge difference between the HRT w/ Channel Islands amp than my Hifiman EF2a amp/dac on my headphones, but major improvement w/ my stereo system. Dual outputs would be nice and I may upgrade to DacMagic in the future for this reason but the Streamer II is performing very well for me.

I got a used Channel Islands amp for about $200 on flea-bay. Performance is very good. What I like best about it is that it has a loop output so I can still stream music from my PC to headphones or stereo w/o changing any wires etc. Just need to change the input on my receiver. Also, it has hig and low gains, which is good for my AKGs and if I get an easier driven pair of cans later.
