How to use the HDMI port from Sony laptop ?

Thread Starter

The title sounds kind of stupid but it's real stupid as I am and I need help.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop with HDMI out and a few USB ports but no optical out. I have Pandora premium and Spotify which I enjoy within their limitation of compressed audio recording format.

I hook the Sony laptop to my Pioneer Sc05 and the Onkyo 876 via HDMI port. The issue is the laptop would play a few songs and the sound was switched back to the laptop speakers when the screen went to sleep.. It is a nuisance to "wake" the laptop screen every couple songs so I can heard it thru my speakers not the laptop speaker.

Any simple solution ? Thank you in advance.

i think its the windows auto sleep feature that is putting it to sleep.

if so you'll need to get into Control Panel and look for Power Options and either a) disable sleep mode (but remember to switch it back to auto for daily work) or (b) create a new Power Scheme and cater to your behaviour (e.g. auto shutdown after 2 hours, don't shutdown when on ac power etc).
