grado driver un-repairable damage?

I was messing around, trying to recable a pair of sr80 headphones.

The little piece that is soldered to came off from the part that I am assuming is the driver.

Is that now just trash? Or can it just be glued back on? I can't imagine that it can be, but I wanted to ask before I assumed the worst.

It seems like a very easy thing to do, pull that off. Huge noob mistake.

Thanks

The wire came out of the diaphragm?  Or the soldered terminal came loose?

A pic would help.

yeah, here are some images i found in another thread.

That part that the wires are soldered too.

The wires are soldered to the part like the image. But the part that is soldered to is no longer connected to the rest of the assembly anymore. I don't see anything, except for glue residue. No metal "contacts". But I keep reading in threads about "tiny" "delicate" wires somewhere beneath.

I believe that this is what happened. The images I posted are from another post and not what I am experiencing. So, it sounds right to say that the soldered terminal came loose.

If you're skilled enough you can glue(heat resistant glue) it back and reattach the voice coils to the soldering pcb but huge probability that they won't sound the same or they won't work.

I know for certain I'm not skilled enough. Just winging it.

What specifically needs to happen to reattach it? Just glue it in where it was seated before?

Thanks everyone.

You can have Grado "fix" them up for $25. Shipping to is on you, shipping back is on them.

really? i'll have to look into that. thanks for the heads up.

the terminal connects to the driver coils. If it comes off it's pretty much unrepairable. But do check with grado if they will fix it.

This happens a lot with balanced armature drivers.  The repair rate is like 2% or maybe less.  I don't even bother to try because as mentioned before even after repair, the SQ is often not at original specs.

The lesson learned is do not pull on the wire, as you are trying to heat the solder and remove a wire.
