They sound quite different, the DT880 has a frequency response that is more neutral and even, while the DT770 has more bass and treble emphasis, and a more "bumpy" frequency response (probably due to being closed).

Pleather isolates better, but it is not a huge difference, you can still get good isolation with velour pads. Of course, the clamping force and the design of the headphone and earpads are also important factors.

Yep, the post by stv014 is pretty much what I would have written on the differences between the 770 and 880

(& also on the leather/pleather vs. velour isolation question.)

the fischers are very isolating.

the a900 has been my fave headphone for a long time tho, but love them both
