They sound quite different, the DT880 has a frequency response that is more neutral and even, while the DT770 has more bass and treble emphasis, and a more "bumpy" frequency response (probably due to being closed).

How is the isolation?
The DT770 is closed and has decent isolation, especially the more clamping Pro version. The DT880 is semi-open, and it does not really have much isolation, you can basically consider it open in this respect. Also, the earpads, while looking the same on pictures, are different on the two headphones, the DT770 ones isolate better.

Pleather isolates better, but it is not a huge difference, you can still get good isolation with velour pads. Of course, the clamping force and the design of the headphone and earpads are also important factors.
