Need some closed cans.. Thinking Audio Technica ATH-A700 or A900? Others?

Anyone know the differences between these two, aside from cost?  Similar isolation, I would imagine.  Does the 900 have more bass?

Would consider going up to $300 if anyone else has a favorite.  Comfort and isolation very important to me (in addition to SQ of course!).

I like my Beyer DT880 600ohm, but when the family is around, I need the isolation.  Thanks for any help!

can try denon 2000 ?

The ATH-A900s are considered to have better bass over the ATH- A700s.

In general, the A900s does everything a little better then the A700s

Audio Technica has just come out with new (and I assume improved) closed headphones.

The A550X, A700X and the A900X.

As I'm assuming you have a headphone amplifier for your DT880 "Premium" 600-Ohms.

How about getting the DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm.

A little more tighter around the ears, but well under your budget.

A DT770 600ohm is the obvious choice for a closed DT880.

On the cheap... the 880s can be modded into a closed phone, simply open them up and cover the grills from the inside.

I'd recommend a Shure SRH-940, you can get one for around $250 brand new. Very good headphone for the price.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, I am using a headphone amp (Bellari HA540).

I know the DT-770 is the obvious choice, since I enjoy my DT-880's, but I was thinking it would be more fun to try another "flavor" in the new pair.  (Maybe a bit more bass would be nice.)  Don't want to mod my DT880 as I will still use them when open cans are not a problem, or if I feel they better suit the music I want to hear at the moment.

In searching the boards,

The Denon 2000 has a lot of fans here, but many note the isolation is not that great.

The ATH-A900 does not seem to muster much passionate support. Maybe the 900X will fare better.

The Shure SRH-940 seems promising, as does the Sony Z1000.  Anyone know how their isolation compares?

Thanks again!

Heya,

Fischer Audio FA-003.

Then:

AudioTechnica A900

Shure SRH840

Beyer DT770

AKG K272 HD

Very best,

My reply in the post above not showing for some reason:

Emphasis on the little, as befits the relatively small price differential (and I'm not so sure about the bass). For me, it's probably not worth the SR60i you could buy if you went with the A700, but that's a tough call. They both sound great in any event.

Ummmm, how about the Beats by Dre, I meean, they're active noise cancelling right? :p

All joking aside, I'm probably probably going to have to say DT-770s here. It feels like your ears are resting against pillows, the isolation is great, and the sound is great :) (obviously all that is subjective.)

The DT770 is a very different flavor from the DT880.

Other than the comfort & build quality, they have little in common.

To my ears, the Z1000 is a much better listen than the 940, and even a better listen than the D2000.

One aspect of the AT 700 and 900 that really bothered me - the "wings" are spring loaded, and I could hear them

making noise every time I moved my head even slightly.

Very best,

I own the K271 MKII and love there bass, but they are identical to the K272 HD with the velours. I'm not sure think that would give him more bass quantity than what he has in all honesty. They would definitely satisfy his isolation needs, however.
