Just finished my own set of custom rubbers. I second all the above. These are great with about a buck of of silicone putty slapped to them. Although it improves them, it also makes their shortcomings more evident... still really good for (all told) ~$8 and change

Can you link to the silicone putty that you used? Looks like something I would want to try

I'm having a hard time liking these. I enjoy my ES18s more and they were only a couple dollars more than what I paid for these. They fit about the same, but the 9927 has less bass. I'll be runnig pink noise out of them for the next few days. These were initial impressions of course. They are an awkward fit. Do the majority of people try to deep seat them or put them in as ear bud type? I've noticed using the bigger tips, I can put them in like an ear bud and get somewhat of a seal; it does not sound hollow and catually has nice clarity and treble; the bass is just lacking.
I have the same IEM ES18 as my previous iem , First time I got the monoprice I have the same impression as yours. Just keep listen for 3 days and i get used to the sound and like it more. Give some time and and maybe you like it more.

So after quite some time and frustration, I've figured out my problem with these...
I need to somehow elongate the barrel, OR find tips that are long and thin. I've tried bi-flange Image S4 tips, but they come up just a bit short. Maybe 1mm or 2mm, because if I push the headphones in with my finger, they sound great. But as soon as I let go, the great seal is gone. Any help?
maybe try the mod tips I post before, it make any tips longer.

I gave another listen last night and enjoyed them more. I still reached for my ES18 to watch a movie though. Seems to be more convenient to put in on the fly. I do feel if I was to listen to music though and not use my W4s that I would use the 9927s over the ES18. I do appreciate the clarity and treble of the 9927s more. Also, I don't think the cord is anywhere as bad as everyone has been saying. With that being said, I have never just stuck them in my pocket and have always wrapped the cord.
also the materials were purchased at westone.com.. i bought the 10pack... if u do the math,, each pack can do two large impressions or 4 smaller ones.. http://www.westone.com/store/index.php/silicone-singles-1.html
and ear dams... http://www.westone.com/store/index.php/cotton-ear-dams-size-4-mini-2.html
I personally am enjoying the soud more and more....i am listening to more live recording
I do indeed apologize in advance for posting a question before reading the whole thread but - it IS 200+ pages now!
Here's my application : I control live sound at a church and mix the audio both for the congregation AND a webcast. My listening position is close to a drummer and a pianist so, for me, isolation is a primary concern. In general, I find IEM's do well with isolation as compared to most other cans. Another potential use is for commuting via NY City subway, for which a nice isolated pair of cans is essential.
Would you say that the isolation is a strong point of these cheapazoids? Given that they have venting, I'm not expecting much. Given the price, I popped for a few pairs anyway. And while I was on the MP site I got a pair of vocal mics for the church. Still came to less that 50 bucks for the whole package. Holy Toledo!
A suggestion for those looking for a cheap source of alternative cables: look around you, the next time you get off an airplane.
PS: if the answer to my isolation question is "depends on the tips" I do intend to experiment there once they arrive, I will of course report in!

That's the one I got but the price has gone ski high since. I think mine was less than $10. This brand works pretty good and is also available at your local big name craft store. You'll end up with a lot more than you need, but it has its uses
