Hi, i got the 160ds a few weeks ago i find its sounds pretty good a lot better than my essence stx anyways and on the DS comfortable listening is at 9 o'clock and its loud at 10 on most tracks. i would say you got a bad one .

Ouch, I tried running it through the RCAs using my Xonar as the DAC, I got the right channel and a lot of buzzing. Guess I'll be filing for RMA then.

Ever tried using the burson internal Dac?

Yes, I tried it through the USB connection first and fully disabled all of my sound card's software and the device itself. I didn't get the buzzing, but it had the same channel imbalance. Right channel was very loud on the first click, and the left channel silent. Turning up the volume brought the left channel out and the right channel didn't really seem affected. Maybe its bypassing the volume controls or something.

I would like to add that im running the burson with the usb connection to pc and I tried TV to the burson via rca and sounds good also but not great TV electronics arent that great i guess and it depends on the audio quality of program was listening to a Miles Davis concert in Germany in the 80s i think.

Both Burson and the seller agree that it sounds like I got a defective unit. I'm being overnighted a new one, I'll post back with some hopefully very positive impressions tomorrow. biggrin.gif

Hey Canadian 411 when you get your Burson160ds go to page 7 they will tell you how to get a 1 years extension on warranty free for a total of 2 years. And by the way congrats yo wont regret it. Would like your impressions with d-7000 eventually. Meanwhile im using a pair of Denon d-1001 and they where greatly improved by the Burson  i sent my d-5000 to Lawton Audio expecting them in january im excited to. Takes about 10 weeks for the process !

Ok, well this is disappointing. My first impression of the Burson is that it is a bit on the boring side, it drives my headphones much better than the Essence, but I was finding myself wishing for the Essence while listening to a Candlemass album today, I actually just paused the song and switched back over and the Essence is a lot more engaging, though the background is a little noisy, though the recording is very poorly mastered, the Burson may just be covering this up. Make no mistake, the Burson has a much clearer and more refined sound, its just not putting out something I can rock out too.
How much change should I be expecting through burn in?

HA-160D used to be praised for its PRaT, but maybe DS is different.

Are you sure you have not mismatched headphones iwth amp by choosing the wrong amp for your phones?

i heard the ds sounds a little different as they are not using the stepped attenuator on it anymore... only tried the 160d so i don't have any first hand experience

My impressions are changing drastically with burn in. The Essence sounds like a cheap toy now. I'll save more detailed impressions for after burn in seeing how much it has changed in only 10 hours.

I got my Burson 160DS, connected Burson USB out to laptop USB input and no sound coming out.

I set the switch to U for USB on Burson but still no sound.

Am I missing a driver or is this suppose to be connected to the sound card ?

Thanks.

On your laptop set up the Burson as your default audio device.
