Need to run dual headphones

Thread Starter

Hey gang!  I'm kind of a noob, so pardon my ignorance here.

My wife and I like watching tv/movies after the kids are in bed. But we prefer to do it with headphones to keep the noise to a minimum. But my stereo (Pioneer Elite, 2009 model) has only ONE headphone out jack.

Right now we're running audio through my Pioneer infared (cordless) headphone base, which has a 2ndary output jack for a 2nd pair of (wired) phones.  So one of us uses the cordless Pioneers and the other uses the Audio Technica ATH-AD700s.  But I'd like to get a new pair of corded phones because they are more comfortable (probably another pair of the ATH-AD700s since I really like those).

What's the best way to get 2 headphone-outs from my stereo? Will some kind of splitter be enough, or do I need a dual-output headphone amp or something?  (i'm limited to online purchases and won't be able to "try before I buy" because we're military stationed abroad).

Thanks!

Radio Shack sells a splitter for a few dollars. You can also DIY one inexpensively and easily.

I'd pick up a splitter first and see if that works. If it does, there's no need to explore more expensive options.

One more expensive option would be the PreSonus HP4. It costs around $100 and can drive four pairs. It'd certainly work, but I'd get a $3 or so splitter first.
