Do you ever feel like it would have been best if you still were an ignorant consumer with $30 headphones/iems. Does it ever come to you that now that we have experienced good quality we can't go back? I have this feeling all the time. Whenever i try my old cheap headphones i feel like something is missing and i can't get into the music. I wish i could be ignorant with audio like before but now i am in the $200 range and it's impossible to turn back now.

Thank you all for this. Now i'm forever broke and always unsatisfied. Better start saving up for some lcd 2 or denon d7000 or any of the flagships. Unfortunately even then i won't be satisfied. I will still want to try something new.

Please discuss your thoughts and please stay on topic.

Off topic is ok if it adds to the conversation in some way.

I'm very content with my setup.

I recently auditioned the Beyer T1s before purchasing them, had I bought them online like I usually do then yes, I would want to rewind time...

Wow the responses on this are so impressive and detailed. Can you honestly say something more like why? I asked more then just 1 question.

I can definitely see myself going back to entry level cans like the SR60 and K240 if I'm on a budget.

OP, the best cure for an upgraditis is to simply try them out yourself. I used to be on the same boat, but after hearing a lot of equipments I've completely cured my itch for an upgrade. I think it's mostly the curiosity and "not knowing" that causes one to upgrade. If you can't find a hi-fi store or attend a meet, you should seriously consider buying those flagships, and decide what you want to do from there.

I'm quite new to the world of head-fi, and part of me wishes I'd never started, but the sheer enjoyment I'm getting out of rediscovering my music collection (and new music), and turning music listening back into something active, rather than just using music as background noise, is worth every penny I've spent so far. I had a pretty high-end stereo setup in my younger years, but even that couldn't touch the SQ I get from my MS1is. I'm practically drooling in anticipation of getting them back from Marty, especially now that I've moved up to a big boy (portable) amp, and desktop DAC/amp setup.

I ordered a pair of the Panasonic HTF600s everyone's so keen on recently, and...maybe 4-5 months ago, I'd've been saying, "my god, these are the best headphones I've ever owned." However, while they're great for gaming and movies, I find them to be pretty terrible for actual music listening. Who knew I was more of a detail freak than a basshead?

So...no. I'd never voluntarily go back.

As far as being satisfied goes, I literally read hundreds of headphone reviews and impressions, and came to the conclusion that the MS1i sound was just about where I wanted to be, I just wanted more of it, so the decision to woody and recable them was not a hard one to come to in the end. Will they keep me satisfied forever? Possibly, possibly not, but chances are, by the time I get upgraditis again, I'll be more in a financial position to look at things like MSPro/PS1000/PS500/RS1/RS2s.

I have the Q701 and HD-598 and a few others and yet I constantly use my DJ100 that cost me $80 and is often on sale for $50. It really makes me wonder why I bother with more expensive stuff. It's my most used headphone by far.

Sure some others sound better, but they're just not as fun and engaging to listen to.

DJ100 would be my desert island headphone for sure.

What's funny is that when I switch between the Q701 and to the DJ100 I'm not like shocked by how much worse it is.

Now try doing that with the Q701 vs the HD-598..ugh..

Now switching from the DJ100 to the HD-650 really makes me sad. I won't go there...and this was how much more?? (yes, I like the HD-650)

BTW I was listening to my K240 Studio for the first time in months last night. I can't understand why such a great headphone is ignored so much. It's probably like 90% of what the K702 is, but with added bass. Best of all it's only $99!!

What surprised me is how much better male vocals sounded on it vs the Q701.

It's an all around good headphone..basically a studio monitor with a slight bass boost. Does need an amp though, but an E5 can drive it.

K240 Studio, K242HD ~ easily the most under rated sub $250 cans on Head-Fi.
