As the title says, I'm looking for both USB and optical inputs, RCA outputs, and if there is a digital out, I'd prefer it to be a Digital Coax RCA out.
USB protocol is not important in this purchase as I don't see having much of a choice but asynchronous would be better if available. Optical should not be an afterthought, but neither should USB. Right now priority is USB, so I'd take a completely dedicated USB DAC over a DAC that handles both if there is nothing that can do both of these inputs to similar performance levels.
And, possibly a problem with some, I alternate between OSX and Windows 7 so it would be better if it worked with both.
My budget is pretty low for most standalone DACs, but I'll say $100-200, $175 and up is pushing it at this point. With people looking for gift ideas, and certain relatives in the mood to buy me things
, humor me with a sub $500 DAC in addition to the ones I can personally afford if there's one you can think of.
