This is at #1 on the Rap/Hip-Hop charts, no joke. Only redeeming album coming out is Common's new one.

What the fudge happened to the good ol' days of Hip-Hop. Shiz like this makes me sad indeed.

I know but still for something like that to be #1 in the charts is just sad.

Sad indeed, then again, if Justin Bieber can get famous, nothing in the mainstream media matters to me anymore.

Did you see Jimmy Fallon's spoof on his baby mama drama? Hella funny!

Ha, nice play on words. Hip-hop in the 90s were the best for me, I miss those days.

Wrong.  There is a lot of good stuff coming out lately.  It's just part of a sub-genre of Hip-Hop called Underground.

I am currently enjoying the new Immortal Technique, Grieves, and Sage Francis albums, but yes most mainstream is horrible....just like every other genres popular music.

And by 90s I'd say early to mid, but not afterwards.  I'm not a fan of the Tupac and Big E stuff that hit the scene in the mid 90s and took over.

My buddy keeps feeding me new underground hip hoppers, not "rappers" he insists, and they're usually white guys.  I find Sage Francis interesting, but so troubled in the head it gets beyond what I want to comprehend and listen to, and I recently took a liking to Astronautalis, his 2006 album.  It's okay, not great (yet maybe).  Not a big fan of rap anymore I don't think.

I just drew a comparison (in my head) to the guys at work always listening to the classic rock station and hearing the same 30 songs over and over again, and me to only caring for the early 90s rap.

Hip-hop has died?
Cultures cultivated by hip-hop have flourished in recent years. Bboys have received a kind of recognition heretofore unknown; poppers are finally making bank; hip-hop choreographer's pursuits are spreading around the globe like a pandemic. Because hip-hop is undoubtedly a viable medium for unprecedented revenue, it's only of natural consequence that entrepreneurs would seek to commercialize it. However, hip-hop certainly hasn't died; it has matured.

A song with a terrible beat and amazing lyrics will fall flat on its face to the masses.  A song with a good sounding beat and ridiculous lyrics (the majority of hip pop) will sell like crazy.  Why are there any lyrics at all.  That's why I prefer instrumental stuff.
