Is there any reason to consider other closed cans instead of Sennheiser HD25-1 II?

The title says it all..

For <$200 looks like they have the least amount of haters.

Sure there are people who swear by D2000 and A900 but HD25 seems like the overall most sound choice.

What a bit worries me is isolation - sure there are many who say isolation of HD25 is great, but cups still seem kind of small-ish.

Or should I stop worrying and just buy them?

Isolation is one of the best on closed headphones. Dont have to worry about that.

(I own them)

Read a lot of folks saying that the HD25 isolation is top notch. From personal experience I can say that the D2000 isolation is far from top notch, if isolation is an issue the D2000 wouldn't be a good bet.

If you dont care about portability, the D2000's are fine.

Of course, but if you care about isolation they are not fine.

Just buy them. The only other closed cans in the price point that compete are Shure 840s, but they're circumaural. I've had a set for 2 weeks and demo'd about 12 sets ranging from M50s to RS2is. I just can't find anything that's better all around than them. That thin midrange spike they have responds great to EQ. For the iPhone, I re-encode my FLACs in foobar with the EQ preset in place so they hit FLAC player pre-equalized and sounding great through the HD25s. These really require nothing but a clear source to push. I'd love to hear the 300ohm model on a nice tube amp, though.

To put it bluntly; in my experience, You will not find anything better than the HD25s in closed cans under $400, just something different with different features and sound signature. I have not, however, listened to the DT1350 or AT KS9A, which are both famed to be great cans.

Hey thanks guys!

Since I only need cans for indoors and in noisy environment, I don't really care about the size..

Do Shures 840s isolate any better?

There are more than two closed cans in the 200 dollar range. For example, the AiAiAi tma-1, the V-Moda Crossfade LP2, Dennon 2000's, DT1350's (depending on pricing), V-Moda M80, Vmoda V80, and probably others I can't think of right now.

You can find used-like new D2000s on amazon for around 200usd.  I bought my D2000's on amazon for 190usd used-like new.

I just must not have the right ears for the V-Moda. I tried them, and they sounded good, but not like the Senns. I'm interested in the AiAiAi, but they're hard to get your hands on where I live.

And I mentioned the Dt1350, but it's 50% more than the HD25, and the 25 still is an equal to it.

As for the Shure 840s, I a/b'd them against the HD25 and I'd say this. SQ is about the same, staging is better, but they're not so portable. They're nice and loud and I REALLY want a set for home.

On an aside, I saw that the NFL sportscasters wear an HD25 set that has a mic on it. Neato.

Buy the senn hd 25 1 ii and don't look back. The srh840 is good (i own them) but they don't compare to the hd 25s imo. Though the srh840 is a million times more comfortable imo.

In all honesty, I'm also in the market for ~200dollar closed portable on ear cans. I don't like the split headband of the senn hd, so I've narrowed it down to the aiaiai or the m80 by vmoda. Those two, with the addition of the hd 25 (minus that odd headband) are my top three choices. Those ones there seem like some of the best portable cans you can get; durability, detachable (replaceable in the hd-25) cords, good isolation, good SQ, light weight, easy to drive, sound good unamped and a decent price.

just my 2cents
