Having a problem with my J3, it wont play an album I have in .flac

I have an album ripped in .flac.  It plays fine via foobar but once I load it onto my J3, clicking on any of the tracks freezes the player and forces me to do a hard reset.  I've tried to convert it to a lower flac compression via multiple encoders with no success, the same problem happens.

The tracks work just fine when I convert them to mp3.  What could be causing this?

Try changing file names  .fla

Try Ripping your files using db power amp. And 1 more thing, j3 doesn't play 24/96 file. Check your file bit. Try ripping them with a less than level 8 flac type. You should be good to go smily_headphones1.gif

Well, I no longer have the original album that I ripped into flac.  ( sigh ) lost a lot of my music stuff a while back.  I was fiddling around with my older ripped collection and found this one that just doesnt want to work right.

Its weird, reconversion back to flac doesn't work, the player still freezes instantly but converting to mp3 or another file type lets the files play normally.  Very strange.

Flac files must absolutely be 16-bit, or you will have problems. As for the frequency, i think it plays 48kHz and 44.1kHz.

You might also try running the files through Audiotester or something similar to test for encoding errors.

Audiotester website (It's portable, no installer)

Ran the files through that and they passed, yet the files cannot open in Audacity.  They open and play in Foobar2000 though.  I'm at a total loss, not at all sure of what the hell is wrong lol

Do you have (like me) the free download of Audacity?  It may have limited codec support as the free version -- IDK.

P.S. Agree with your sig line -- J3 - who needs an amp?  The J3 with a couple of portable amps I've tried actually sounds a bit muddier.  I think the J3 EQ and BBE process the sound enough and the amp the over-processes it???

I've tested the files with a few programs, Audacity seems to be the only one that wont even open the files, but it does open other flac files so again I am at a loss.  Reconverting the files from .flac to .flac with my own converter is always a solution for this problem, usually something wrong with the encoding.  Sadly, I've exhausted all my resources and have no clue what to do :P

Also, the easily driven iems don't really need amping to sound nice, especially the Blox and Livewires.  Very easily driven and I found no improvement with some of the best portable amp out there ( TTVJ slim, pico slim, Ibassos new T5, SR71A ).  The difference from just using the J3 and comboing the J3 with any of those amps was minimal, mostly only different in sound coloration or kick factor.  J3 is a beast, its soundstage is capable of very nice things with the proper eq settings.

You can rerip in dbpoweramp; Flac in and Flac out, and change bitdepth and sample freq.
Always works if my Squeezebox Touch refuses to play a Flac file.
