In my opinion, the Sennheiser HD280 is the best out of those for sound isolation and sound quality. For comfort though, that's a different story, they clamp pretty tight and can be painful for long periods of time. They're also pretty big so they may not be ideal for portability. The sound is also pretty neutral so may not be ideal for the genres of music you listed.

Sony MDR-V700DJ...trust me, don't get these. As for the sony mdr-zx700, I have no experience with those.

The sony mdr-xb700 are pretty big and easily stick out. They have alot of bass (then again, that is what they are made for) and they do pretty well for those genres you listed. They are comfortable though, the earpads are pretty big and soft and feel pretty good in my opinion.

bump

Bumping a post like this is really not cool. There's plenty of resource on this site for any of these phones. Kicking this up to the top frequently isn't going to get you any answers, if none have been provided so far.

Well, frankly ...   none of those headphones really distinguish themselves.

I recommend doing some more focused research on this forum & elsewhere,

listen to as many headphones as you possibly can which are in your price range,

(even somewhat below & above it,)

and you'll develop a significantly better list from which to choose.

Alright, finally something I can actually contribute to.

Sennheiser HD 280 PRO, : Terrific headphones could arguably be the best on the list, BUT i'm with you, hip hop/ rnb etc. and these headphones do not have the best bass.

MDR-XB700 : MDR- eXtraBass meaning they would be great for hiphop listeners. I have never actually heard these so I can't give you a synopsis on these. But from the SEVERAL reviews I have heard, the XB-500 would be better.

MDR- V700dj: Hehe I actually have a pair of these right next to me. I personally think that these would be the best for your interest, for hiphop these are terrific, not TOOO much bass like the XB series yet still just enough to keep one satisfied.

I have no experience AT ALL with the last pair mentioned.
