Did you measure them with a multimeter (DC) ? The 64 Ohm impedance is specified at 1 kHz, and is confirmed by this impedance graph.

So the numbers say the 598 is easier to drive.


The HD280 Pro is more than twice as efficient, and this negates the minor difference in impedance. It also has a somewhat flatter (but still very far from flat) impedance curve. So, the HD280 should be easier to drive in fact. Because of the high reactance, both headphones - but especially the HD598 - need a source with low output impedance to avoid bass resonance around 90 Hz. Neither need particularly high voltage to sound loud enough.
