Round two. I was going to buy AKG K601 but apparently I need an amplifier to make it sound right.
So what would be good around-the-ear headphones without the need for an amp? I wouldn't actually mind buying something like AKG K601 as long as it's good without an amplifier, which I've heard the K601 is not.
Budget would be strictly 400€, preferably around 300€.

Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

Grados are very easy to drive so they should be on the short list.

Not if the source has high output impedance. But different "unamplified" sources have different flaws (low maximum voltage, low maximum current, high serial resistance, small serial DC decoupling capacitors, etc.), which are worked around best by choosing different headphones.
I've heard Sennheiser headphones tend to emphasize bass, which I don't particularly want. Could be I just misunderstood, but I'll definitely look into it though. :>

Any particular model? :F There's a ton of them, I'd rather not read a review of every single one.
