i have that same combo, except strapped to my head are a pair of monitor 10s - but i will second that the e7.e9 are an amazing value at just over $150

as far as audiophile gear, i made a slow process from crap to what one would consider audiophile, then i heard a $5000 setup that honestly, didn't wow me at all, sounded different from my $500 setup, not better mind you, different...

i knew then that above a certain point [just like wine, just like cars, just like diamonds, just like... damn near everything] you're paying for something besides an increase in quality :)

Getting my HD650s and a $200 Original Master headphone amp was pretty memorable. I have since bought more expensive equipment as part of my headphone rig, and the improvements were incremental, not huge (with the switch from cheap solid state to decent tube amp probably offering the most gains.)

Hearing Sehring speakers (TTVJ used to carry these) with a B&K 4420 and Manley Shrimp was mind blowing in comparison. I had owned some entry level speakers and receivers prior to the Sehrings and didn't expect much. Hearing a really good dynamic speaker that throws a wide soundstage and disappears is astounding. Headphones are great in a lot of respects, but are not as mind-blowing as a good speaker rig.
