Hi folks,
I've been searching the head-fi forums and Google like crazy for help with this, but I'm not having any luck. I'm trying to play 24bit / 96k files on my Mac, and getting some really nasty distortion. I've got some native 24/96 copies of live concerts that I recorded myself as well as some 24/96 transfers from vinyl. Here's what I've got:
Music files: 24/96 AIFF files (also tried converting to FLAC and ALAC - no difference)
Computer: Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
Audio MIDI Setup is set to 24/96 - no digital volume enabled
Player: tried iTunes, Decibel, and Play - no difference (confirmed proper settings of each)
Digital out: Toslink optical digital connection
DAC: Little Dot DAC_1 (it detects the incoming 96k and displays correctly)
Amp: Little Dot MK IV SE
...I have no problems at all playing 16/44 or 16/48 source material, but when I try 24/96, the sound comes out really sputtery and choppy...sort of like there are constant little dropouts. That's about the best way I can describe what I'm hearing.
I'm out of ideas on things to check. If anyone has suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
