HD650s too much for what I need them for?

Hey guys I am currently debating whether or not to purchase the Sennheiser HD650s. I've curently got Sennheiser HD280 which are being amped by a FIIO E11. I'm a college student and budding audiophile. I would mainly be using the headphones to listen to while studying and inside my dorm. Would it be more feasable to get the lower level HD like like 598s or is this extra money really worth? I really listen to just about every single genre of music besides country. Thanks in advance!

If budget allows, get the most headphone you can for the money. However, the HD650 really is something that needs more than just the headphone, it's a headphone that needs a pretty substantial amplifier to get every drop out of that headphone. Have you considered other headphones beyond Sennheiser? Other headphones to consider: Beyer DT880 PRO, Fischer Audio FA-011, HifiMan HE-300, Denon D2000, Ultrasone PRO 750 (or HFI 2400), AKG K240 MKII, AudioTechnica AD900, etc.

I'm looking for the most bang for my buck. I've just always looked at senneheiser. I am open to other headhpones but it's really hard to distinguish which to buy. I also have an amp already but I'm guessing you are suggesting a better and more powerful amp?

If you have money get the amp but otherwise just get headphones. What's your budget? What kind of music do you listen to?

I already have a FIIO E11 Amp. My budget is <$500. I listen to just about every genre of music except country. I really listen to mostly hip hop, rock, and acoustic type music.
