Hello all,
I've bought a pair of Audio Technica M50 in order to do some general listening but also some basic sound mixing as I do a lot of video editing (I can't afford a pair of real amps right now).
I find the ATH M50 absolutely great, very comfortable, accurate sound, nice basses etc etc. The only thing that disturbs me a bit is that I feel that when I listen to vocal jazz and crooners (typical Dean Martin, Sinatra and jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald etc) the voice is a bit damped down compared to my ipod headphones. I'm not suggesting at all that iphone earphones are better, but I truly notice a difference in the vocals, for all the rest the M50 beats by very very fare the ipod earphones.
Basically listening to Dean Martin with my ipod earphones, I fee that the singer is really right next to my year singing (and back music doesn't sound as good) but with the M50 I have a sense that the singer is more like 3 meters in front of me).
Why is that ? Are the M50 not the best choice for vocal music ? (I also do listen to lounge music, classic and opera..) Maybe ipod earphones are actually modified to boost the vocal frequencies whereas M50 being studio headphones have a flat respond ?
Thanks for your attention,
Alexandre
*For technical specifications,
I listen to AAC files on my itunes, my headphones connected straight to the 3.5mm jack of my MacBook pro., I fiddled a bit around with the more than basic iTunes Equalizer but an any settings the iphone earphones to give me more for the vocals.
