Soap shouldn't damage pleather material. But if you are worried, just use warm water and try the sun method I mentioned.  The heat and UV rays are great for getting rid of odor.

Maybe try baby soap? Very gentle and mild smelling soap usually.

Weird that they smell that much. I've had my XB500 for 1½ years and they don't smell whatsoever even if I stick my nose to the pads, in fact they don't even get warm when I wear them, they stay unusually cool which can't be said about the HTF600 which gets really warm and sweaty and do smell a bit bad. The pads on the Sonys feels like really high quality pleather, don't think it's leather even if it very much feels like it, well at least it's something very close to real leather but doesn't leather usually get very warm though so that's what makes me not think its leather?

Some kind of mild soap with no frangrances or perfumes added.  I always used Dial Liquid Gold, as its an anti-bacterial and good for using on tattoos for aftercare...

Wow I tried almost everything said here and nothing worked. But when I for some weird reason I decided to stuff the bag with tissues......... I took out the headphones a couple hours later and they have almost no smell............wut.  I never knew tissues absorbed smells lol when i took out the tissues they reaked of the sweat so I guess they just took it right out of the headphones.

Try Murphy's Oil Soap. I used to clean horse tack (leathers) with it. Use the paste or liquid. It has a pleasant scent and will remove the odor.

It always reminds me of the stable when I smell it. smily_headphones1.gif

I know that some people have successfully cleaned off pads by removing them, putting them in an "intimates" laundry bag, and running them through a HE washing machine (a front loader, not one with an agitator).  No dryer, just air dry.  Worked wonderfully apparently.  They used non fragranced detergent.
