Grado SR80i's to 325is's......

Loving my Grado SR80i's but it's getting old moving them between the computer room and the living room. So I was thinking of getting 325is's.

what can I expect?

The SR325i are more resolving, crisp, detailed with more soundstage(the big enough improvement to worth upgrade).

If you're prepared to eventually get a decent rig for the 325i then I find them to be quite

worthwhile. Opinions are split between those that feel higher end Grados deserve an

amp and those who feel it is a tiny improvement.

I find my 325i is much more fluid, controlled and full especially in the bass region

when properly amplified. A quick switch to a portable player makes them sound

thin, a little tizzy in comparison.

What can you expect? More detail, more bass quality and quantity, refined highs.

I am using a Schiit Asgard for my 80i's which should work nice with the 325is's.

Thanks

I havent hear about this match personally (only litte dot+grado), but if you're satisfied on how your grado's sound. You will be ok.

I recently upgraded from SR60i to SR325i. actually have both SR225i and SR325i, because the SR325i's are considered the brightest of the Prestige series and I was warned that they might be too bright for longer listening. So i got em both biggrin.gif.

After deciding that I could handle the highs on the SR325i, they are now my regular phones for home listening. I am currently using them with FiiO E7 DAC + Corda Headsix. There is a definite but small improvement with my current amp, so I think a tube amp like the Little dot should have a good improvement.

Others have mentioned the sonic differences you can expect

But I think the first "thing" you'll notice is the large difference in physical weight -

initially, when I put on the 325is', they felt very odd - and all of the extra weight

is located at the two points farthest from your ears -

just thought I'd mention this because you asked "what can I expect?"

(BTW, sonically I like the 225i more than the 325is - the latter are

somewhat metallic sounding in the upper registers; they are bright

headphones.  I no longer have them but I keep thinking of getting

them again because on certain types of music they're nearly

overwhelming in their punch, immediacy, and presence.)

That's true, their weight and balance on the head can be a deal breaker for some, you can alleviate this issue a bit by

sourcing the Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro headband as shown below, it provides a tighter, snug fit.

Still, it's only until you audition some other maker's 'top cans' that you realise that for $295USD, the 325i really

does offer a punch and pace that is very, very difficult to top.

The sr325i are a great set of headphones, get a little Dot I+ and roll some tubes, and you have an amazing rig. This was what I was using before I upgraded to the RS1, imo the sr325i had the best clarity. Something you might to try are the bagel pads, its 50/50 not everyone likes it but for me it sounded really good.
