Looking for low-end purchasing advice and advice on potential conversion to earmuffs

I'm looking for a good pair of headphones that can be purchased for under $150 and driven with only a laptop. However, what's more...I'm also wondering if it is possible to knit a covering for headphones, making them look more like earmuffs...

Would that damage the audio?

It might also necessitate a smaller pair, as the person I'm buying these for has a rather small head, and doesn't appreciate being dwarfed by headphones.

Thanks for the advice.

You would not want to put any kind of covering over open headphones, so closed ones would be better.

CALs (Creative Aurvana Live), cost is only half your budget.

Are those headphones comfortable? As the person I'm buying these for doesn't notice audio quality as much as comfort, it's a pretty important consideration.

My CALs broke off one of the cups six months afo and have not gotten around to fixing them.

Can't remember comfort level, hopefully someone else can answer that.

I do remember that the cups are smaller, barely fit around my ears.

Sony V6 - very comfortable cans - as a bonus they fold, and sound pretty good.
