Hello everyone,
about 6 months ago, I became fed up with my ****ty sound of my pc. I decided to buy a pair of AV40s (not great, but good), and a simple UCA202 DAC to see what it could do. Now i want to get a pair of headphones to go with these and looking for advice on what to do.
First of all, i'd like to replace my DAC, i don't know how much difference it will make so i need some input on this.
For the phones i was looking at a pair of HD598s, will i need a separate (headphone)amp for this? If so, i'd prefer one that has a DAC build in and maybe even a normal amp as well for future speaker upgrades.
Also, i've heard somewhere that the amp in the AV40 actually is a pretty good headphone amp, so would it be possible to just use the AV40s as an amp? (would be quite strange though...)
Budget for all (dac, amp, headphone) will be around E 200-300. I usually listen to classic rock, alternative rock, jazz. Artists like Dire STraits, mumford and sons, RHCP, Jamie Cullum and Steely Dan.
Thanks for all the advice!
PS. I've had a chance to audition the HD25II.. Didn't like it one single bit, but i think that's because they aren't made for my kind of music.
PPS: Sorry for the ' in AV40s...
