i recently bought a pair of beats pro and was thinking of returning it mostly because they aren't the most comfortable headphones. since i'm returning them i guess i'll be needing a new pair of headphones preferably ones that sound much much better than the beats pro. my price range is around $200-$400 if that help. im also looking into some audio technica ath m50s are these better than the pros? it'd also be nice if the headphones u guys recommend look nice too :)

What are you looking for in a pair of headphones? (Bass, treble, mids) What genres of music do you enjoy? (rock, metal, rap, pop, classical, electronic, etc)

i listen to all kinds of music but generally pop, rock and hip hop. the bass has to be nice but not too overpowering and i'd like the headphones to have nice crisp mids and highs.

Do you demand a large sound stage or do you want that upfront aggressive approach to music? Because i know they are only $200 but i find the sennheiser hd 25 1 II performs excellently with the mentioned genres but lacks sound stage. For pop and rock you will want something with an aggressive sound signature (grado, sennheiser hd 25 1 ii) But for hip hop you would want bass which the grado tends to lack. I think if you wouldn't mind an on ear headphone instead of an around ear headphone the sennheiser hd 25 1 ii would be an excellent choice for those genres. Also the sennheiser hd 25 is built like a tank and very lightweight.

But that's where my limit in audio ends. I hope this helps.

If looks are a factor...AIAIAI TMA-1, Phiaton MS400, V-Moda M80, HDJ 2000...

All excellent sounding headphones as well, though the TMA-1 is darker than some may like. They're all easily powered and very comfortable.

EDIT: In your price range, forget the M50s...IMO

Why not the M50s?  Those were the first that actually came to mind....

i actually kinda like the TMA's. where would i be able to get them in canada and how much better are they than the beats pro?

Well, here's a question: what did you think of the sound of the Beats Pro?

They're boring to my ears and out done by a ton of other cans in the price range.

They're not bad when your cap is ~$150 (though I'd still pick the Koss Pro DJ100) but at a cap like $400 you've got a million better options.

EDIT: IMO once you hit $200 the M50 shouldn't even be on the map anymore...

How do you compare the DT770 Pros to the ATH-M50s?  I found the DT770s incredibly boring and the bass entirely too overpowering even with my Matrix M-Stage.

well i think they sound pretty good imho mostly cause i only owned a pair of solo hd's before these pros.

I'm not a fan of the 770 either really. I'd take them over the M50 simply for comfort but neither is a headphone I'd want to own.

The 770's bass was way too boomy and it just bled all over the rest of the sound. I wouldn't call them boring to my ears, but they certainly aren't going to be topping any list of mine.
