Alright thank you all for the replies. Probably won't get the E7 then, I'll stick with the E9.

I bit the bullet and ordered Beyerdaynamic DT 770 Premium 250 ohm. I'll let you know how they fair with the Xonar D2 and no amp. I'm getting the E9 for Christmas :p
Can't wait!
I received them today. Immediately I noticed they were very quiet. Had to turn the volume up to about 70-80 to get them the same volume as my Goldring NS1000, which were at 40 volume. So I'm pretty sure that they are not getting enough power without an amp. Have to wait until I get the E9 then.
As far as quality goes, they sound about the same as the NS1000's, hopefully that will change when they have enough power.
Bit disappointed, but kinda what I expected.
P.S. Does this sound about right? Would appreciate some clarification :)

Best amp for your needs would be either the Fiio E9 or Fiio E10. The E10 is new and also features an in-built
DAC (sound converter) for the price, which means you could opt to just use the DAC inside the E10 instead of
your soundcard via USB cable.
If you're buying something like the E10 and use the in-built DAC then you don't need any extra cables, just plug in the
power, hook up the USB, plug your headphone into the E10 and that's it.
The E9 would need a cable like that above 'mini to RCA' ~ mini goes into your D2 line out and the left/right (red/white) would
go into the back of the E9.
I've now got a FiiO E9 but having a little trouble setting it up. I've done the setup you said (I think) as in this: "The E9 would need a cable like that above 'mini to RCA' ~ mini goes into your D2 line out and the left/right (red/white) would go into the back of the
But I get no sound output, I've made a thread about it... mind having a look?

It is already answered in the other thread, but you should simply connect the 1/8" jack to "front out" (green) instead of "line in" (blue).
Yeah I worked it out now thank you
