Fiio e10 and Beyerdynamic DT 800

Thread Starter

I have the Fiio e10 and Beyerdynamic DT 880 250 ohm. I just got the amp and plugged it in to my computer. I definitely notice louder sound but the quality doesn't seem any better. I don't feel I'm getting anything more out of my music than I was just using 3.5mm out of my mac.

I have most of my CDs ripped at 192kpbs or 256kbps AAC in iTunes. Is this my reason why? I don't have anything FLAC or lossless. Should I try that and see if I notice a difference or is it just cause i'm doing something wrong?

A good amp will make a huge difference and a decent dac will improve the SQ even more. I didn't notice a lot of difference between 256kbps and FLACs.

320kbps vs. lossless, most people will admit you can get away with (tbh, on most songs I probably can't tell the difference, it just comforts me to keep my favorites in lossless) but 192kbps vs. FLAC, you're kind of stepping on some toes.

If not the above, maybe some of these will explain why you're not hearing a lot of difference.

-The FiiO E10 is like $80 USD, don't get me wrong FiiO makes good products but you gotta think how far you can really stretch $80 dollars - a profit margin. So depending on the quality of your sound card DAC, the difference may be minimal at best.

-Even if the DAC was an improvement, DAC upgrades still, most of the time, unless you upgrade from a $100 - $2100 DAC, still only make subtle differences that you may not be detecting. I'm talking about barely out of placebo territory.

I completely agree on your first point. Second point - that depends on an individual's ear.
