I am new to burn in and i just got sennheisers hd 448. What i do is play pink noise and leave the headphones playing it. Is this the right thing to do? how long shud i do it for? and do i continuously leave it playing

Use pink noise, white noise is too much for the higher frequencies. It is recommended to use music you listen for burn-in too. Don't continuously play. Give it some break every now and then. Play it at normal volume, or maybe a wee bit higher but not higher than you can tolerate, if you don't want to destroy the drivers.

Don't worry about it.

The last new pair I bought was a HD-800. I plugged them in straight away and have been listening for over two years without any kind of burn-in regimen.

They sound great and have sounded great from minute one. Don't waste your time, just start listening.

While that's true, some people (like me and many others) like to bring their headphones to fruition much earlier. It's as though you fast forward in time, to be able to enjoy a fully mature wine in two weeks instead of two years. 2-3 days of overnight burn-in are like having owned the headphone for many months.

I'm gonna play this CD I just found for a 100 hours first before I start plugging in my headphones. That will definitely improve the treble and bass response. bigsmile_face.gif

I don't really believe in leaving my headphones to burn-in with pink/white/brown noise. Just put on the headphones and start listening. I noticed a very slight difference as my headphones gained headtime. Whether this is just expectation bias or real science at work, that don't matter to me. Just don't suddenly max out your media player's volume because it might shock the diaphragm or something. Start at 50% volume and work it up.

I do think that because a driver is a mechanical device that some break in does occur. I have used pink noise for a day or so when I wasn't listening. To what extent burn in works is up for speculation. Just enjoy them with your music and you can use a 20 min pink noise (at listening levels)/20 min silence regiment when not on your head if you believe it will help. It can't hurt.

Just break in while you listen to music and not a minute more. For me, and I'm sure for many, the burn in is actually part of the experience of a new pair of cans. If you're really rushed to hear the "burned in" sound of the headphones, just play music through them at a level you would normally listen to and leave it on for an appropriate amount of time.
