Are my Ultrasone HFI-580's damaged? :(

So yesterday I let me friend test out my 580's through my ipod (no amp). He listened to 3 dubstep songs, but what I didn't know is that he was listening to them on full volume...

 

So after that, I put my 580's on and the sound just doesn't sound as good as they did before... The bass isn't as punchy, and the highs are a bit harsh.

 

Did he damage my can's in that short period of time?

I highly doubt that the ipod could push enough mw into the headphones to go beyond its rated input power so I'm pretty sure they aren't damaged. Either that or ultrasone headphones have some very questionable power handling to be damaged by a portable device...

If your friend actually damaged the Ultrasones from listening to them, he must have hearing damage by now.

 

If not, did he mishandle your headphones in some way? I threw those headphones around for about a year until they were dented all over but they still sounded fine.

 

Is there something different about the rest of your audio setup? Maybe you changed the gain or volume settings somewhere.

I doubt putting them at full volume will damage the drivers (especially for full sized headphones).

Did you use the iPod unamped as well ? Perhaps your friend was messing around with your volume limiter settings or EQ ?

The ipod was used without an amp.

 

Really? You guys don't think that could have damaged my headphones?

 

 

I don't know guys, the bass doesn't seem very impactful at all anymore. This makes me super sad :(

Did you happen to listen at full volume as well? It may be your hearing thats damaged, take a break for about 24hrs then have a listen again.
