Yes finally. I have found audio nirvana at last. (bcasey25raptor's short history in audio)

After about a year i have finally settled into a pair of headphones that perfect my listening experience. Lets stretch way back to learn my journey and how i got here.

March 2010

In march of 2010 i got a pair of pioneer se m390s. (still own them) They were my first pair of headphones which i really cared about. They were bassy and slightly unclear but at the time i thought they were the best thing in the world. I trashed them and treated them terribly and they lived through everything. But i still wanted better and i figured i would wait for a good deal on headphones at my local futureshop.

December 2010

This was the month i decided i would get some decent cans. After xmas i had received approximately $180. I was originally planning on getting an xbox 360 but i figured i would use headphones more. future shop had some good deals on boxing day (biggest shopping day of the year in canada, similar to black friday). Shure srh750dj was on sale for $130 but i wanted the beats. The beats were also $130 for the solos. I had some decisions to make. I went onto the futureshop website and read reviews for both headphones. The beats were breaking really easy and the shure's had impressive 5* reviews. I went with the shure's. For many months i had these and i wasn't sure what to think. They were really harsh on my ears and they were uncomfortable. The harshness i had always mistaken for distortion until i learned it was the harshness of my metal recordings that caused it.

March 2011

I kept my eye on the futureshop website until i saw the shure srh840 went on sale for $130. I figured i would return my shure srh750 and get the srh840. I did and i was much more satisfied. They were less harsh and imo funner. But then the same issue arose. Badly recorded music was harsh and unlistenable. I was complaining and made many hate threads about them and had many complaints. People thought i was crazy and a little to opinionated. Well eventually over time i grew to like them.

May 2011

In may i ordered a fiio e5 as a quick amplifier solution. When i received it i was impressed. The sound was much better. I think it was placebo though as a fail to hear much of a difference now.

June 2011

Come june i had graduated and i was craving new headphones but i also wanted to get a dac. So i ordered a Fiio e7 and an Alessandro MS1. I received both at the end of the month. I was incredibly pleased with the alessandro ms1. Very fast and fun. But unfortunately for me i failed to notice any difference between the fiio e7 and my laptops onboard. I made a complaint and people thought the same as when i complained about my srh840s. (is this guy for real?) (just drop the hobby it's not for you) (if your not satisfied sell them and get a new pair). I wrote a controversial review. Later on i realized it did make a difference but it wasn't substantial. I kept it because it was good at amplifying my headphones. I wrote some praise threads for the alessandro and people agreed. I had thought i had found the ideal metal music headphone. I proceeded to write a review for my 3 best headphones. Shure srh840, pioneer se m390, and the alessandro ms1. That recived some interested responses and i felt i could make a good impression on the site now and give people honest feedback on what i have owned or tried.

July 2011

Come july my shure srh840s broke, or at least i thought they did. So i created a bashing thread and nearly got banned from head-fi. I proceeded to send it to shure and they replaced it no questions asked. Now with experience with shure customer support i was satisfied and started praising shure.

August 2011

In august i took a slight hiatus from head-fi where i would only show up periodically and i was in the shadows.

September 2011

Come early september i had received some money from work and i decided to get some iems. I went with the shure se215 regardless of the durability complaints because they were easy to acquire and cheapish. I was quite impressed and made some threads on them and wrote a review. I engaged in the shure se215 conversation and i thought they were great.

November 2011

In november i missed my shure srh750dj so i picked up a new pair from futureshop. I was disappointed as i couldn't hear a massive difference between the srh840. So a few days later on november 10 2011 i returned them for the Sennheiser HD 25 1 II. Picking these up today for $199.99 i got the addidas version. I put them on my head expecting the worst to be awe struck. I played some tyr and ensiferum and i was in a trance. Gentlemen i have found it, I did it. The ideal metal music headphone has been found. I found audio nirvana. This is the greatest feeling i have ever experienced. Reviews and impressions will follow after a few weeks of ownership. If your a metal head like me you have got to get these headphones. I commend sennheiser for making such a headphone.

You should be trying an Ultrasone HFI-580 eventually if you like an aggressive sound. Going for an ATH M50 isn't much different from your Shure 840. But either way, glad you enjoy the Senns. I've never had the chance to hear them.

I purchased some m50s because i wanted credibility to be able to honestly compare them to my other headphones i have tried. For example shure srh840 and shure srh750dj vs m50s. People will take me more seriously if i own them.

HD25 is the portable to go for metal and general prog rock for me as well.

Once I tried to replace it and bought the DT1350, big dissapoint for me. then by luck the V-Moda M80 came to me and it is good, better than expected but still dont beat my HD25.

I've been trough a few portables, you can see them in my profile and the HD25 is still top of my list.

HD25s should sound very similar to the M50s, the M50s really require a good burn in, mine still had sharp sibillance after 50 hours.

no, at all. I hated the M50 for their boominess and pircing highs and recesed mids compared to the HD25. they only thing I prefer of the M50 was the fact that they are more comfortable.

I found my Audio Nirvana with the Tesla T1. -drool-

Same with my ultrasone pro 900's.

At first i thought oh god they sound terrible, so shrill and sibilant i couldn't barely stand listening to them.

Now burned them in for just 10 hours, and already i love them to bits. The sound isn't for everyone but what headphone is?

Throw a bit of enigma their way and my god they belt out, i love them to bits and the best is yet to come.

But i will admit the hd25's are a very good pair, nice and comfy a good solid portable headphone.

Id feel like a plank walking around outside with my 900's on.

Hi, sorry for the late response.

The srh750dj has deeper bass but i feel it is less impactful. The sennheiser hd 25 1 II has a V shaped frequency response where the bass is slightly boosted and the highs are again slighted boosted. The srh750dj is really harsh to me while the sennheiser hd 25 1 ii is smooth and not picky with the source. Although the frequency response of the hd 25 1 ii is flatter i still found the bass and treble to be impressive.

I will write a full review later this month and i will do a multi review between all the full sized headphones i have tried after i receive my m50s.

Good on ya mate, lucky you're finally content with your current HP's. I envy you... XD

Me on the other hand, I want to try/buy a Q/K701, DT990, HD650 and a D2000, let alone another tube amp. I just want to try most cans around the 'mid-fi' mark . I don't see myself breaking out of this habit anytime soon.

Looking forward to reading that multi-review.
