K1000 terminates in 1/4" plug with "Cable manufactured for AKG"

Thread Starter

Took a look at a K1000 last night; the cable terminated in a 1/4" plug. On the cable was written "cable manufactured for AKG."

I assume that all K1000s originally had an XLR termination, so I'm wondering what outfit would likely have performed this job, using cable "manufactured for AKG." Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also wondering if a 1/4" plug termination would reduce the value of a K1000 (since it removes the option to use pretty much any ol' home stereo amp to drive it properly).

I also have another question, but would prefer to ask privately, so please PM me if you happen to own an early bass-heavy K1000.

Thanks!

The K1000s were originally terminated with a 4-pin XLR but came with an XLR to TRS adapter plus another adapter to connect the phone to speaker outputs. A 4-pin XLR with 4 wires to connect to L&R speaker outputs.
